That town has always had nit-picky ridiculous and sometimes draconian rules for tourists. They've also been accused of racist practices against black bikers in the past also. I lived in that town for 6 years back in the mid to late 80's when I was stationed at the old AFB. The cops at that time were well known to be overly agressive and unfair towards the military. My friend and co-worker was arrested one weekend for public intoxication. He had been drinking downtown near the Pavilion...when he left the bar, he realized he had too much to drink and was smart enough to not drive back to base. He walked all the way from the pavilion area downtown in a light rain about 3:00am along business 17. He got all the way back to within about 100 yards of turning up the road into the front gate of the base and a Myrtle Beach cop stopped him. The cop arrested him for public intoxication for basically doing the right thing and not driving drunk. The cops were absolute assholes towards the military at that time.
