Awesome video, very well presented! Really liked the comment about standing inside your house looking at how your deck will interact with your house.

Im in central plateau and in winter it can be quite frosty. As I'm older now I think groove side up is better for safer footing?

If you want somewhere for water to pool and freeze, yes

@@anthonyturner5319 Interesting point, would you therefore put a slight incline across the deck to avoid this?
@anthonyturner5319Ай бұрын
@@allanpennington I always put grooves down unless required for disabled access. On a ramp. You can put a slight slope on deck, depends which way boards run, if it works well, still smooth side up. grooved side up is deadly, especially pine, it’s hard to clean, holds dirt, grows mildew, slippery when wet and frozen, you can get slip resistant stain if your worried about it. Use hard wood, for $2 more a metre or roughly similar to clear pine decking it’s much better long term. Shop around, can get garapa for $7.50 per m 90x20. Or Kwila same or cheaper again ( plastic decking is crappy and more expensive.) Always gap your boards, even pine as they don’t shrink sometimes… and if in the shade or low to ground will keep swelling holding more moisture on the deck and causing problems. I’ve had known more people have issues with grooves up and slipping especially if walking along the deck not across.

“Or you could just put the groove side down and get on with it” 😂

The groves are down for a reason. They are designed this way for airflow to minimise moisture and mould forming.

That was a lot of deck talk. Delivered with a remarkably straight face.
