In this video we discuss what we would do differently if we were to start a similar project all over again!

Hi! Nice to see you again! I think if you posted more you would be very popular and your channel would grow! Katinka you have beautiful skin.........but I agree with Robin on all the questions!! Big grin!! More money is always the best because it makes you comfortable, secure, and provides the best health services. I love a Florida room....hope your porch becomes one soon! Looking forward to our next visit, maybe Robin will sing us another song!!! All the best from Memphis, TN, USA

I LOVE this, thanks for sharing. It´s so reassuring because I had ALL these things on my list of priorities if renovating (apart form the trees in pots). I´m going to add that to the list it is a GREAT tip. 🌳Best of both worlds...planting early but still having time to contemplate the best position. I LOVE that!! 🙌🏽🙏🏽 😊

It's hard work but well worth it. Why on earth are insect screens not readily available in Portugal? Flies that eat you here in summer are a misery. ❤ your banter.

Time is money. An older person (65+) doesn't have time to take a ruin and put years of sweat equity into a property. Making a property unique for the owner by doing small things, yes. A multi year project with little money? No. Who wants to do a large project that will be finished (if it ever gets finished) a few years before the end of their life? My days of major projects are over, I've done enough of these in my life to know that everything takes 3X longer than you think. However, you guys have done a great job on your property. Me? I'm too old to do what you two did and would hire pro's to do the major renovations and move in when the property was close to turn key. If I was 20 instead of 71 I would build from scratch. As time goes by, I have been thinking of doing slow travel in Europe, paying the bills as I go and "hiding in Australia" during the northern winter. Think of an endless summer, That thought gets me excited! The grass is never greener, just a different shade of green. No one area or place is perfect.

Yes Robert, you are right, as we get older priorities change and timing states to matter more. Your travel idea sounds good....go for it!

Good advice watched so many Off grid start ups and Renos your right a comfortable clean sleeping space and washing up and bathing space is a must, helps lift the mood on the challenging days. Also get animals you know how to manage with food and vet bills as building is intensive in both time and costs.😊

Question Robin what the cost one needs to live on in Portugal? And also can you do a video on what tools you need to have in Portugal thank you guys see you in your next video 👍✌️🤙❤️🇵🇹❤️🍻🍻

It depends how you want to live. You can live cheaply anywhere really. Basically Portugal is about the same as most places in Europe for most things. We did a video about tools quite a while ago actually, it's still on KZbin in our videos.

@@johnpierce2390 Outside the big cities, 1340 usd what is around 1220-1230 euros is more than enough for a single person with a conscientious mindset to live - notice l used "to live" and not "survive" (surviving would require some 900 euros). 1200 euros after tax is a relatively decent salary for portuguese standards. Most portuguese individuals on the interior live with far less than that. I assume that in order to live with that amount in the US you already need to know how to manage your budget and control superfluous expenses. Keep in mind that in central portugal , or in any place in Portugal that is at least 100 kms away from really big urban areas or big cities, the cost of living is decently affordable, and multiple products that anyone would use in their day to day life - particularly food, even some medicines - is normally some 20 to 40% cheaper than in the US (Actually medicine can be half the price or even more ). If you are really up to it , do some research, for example go to an supermarket with an online site , where you could fill a shopping basket and try to calculate what you would use in a month, see how much it would be left from 1220, most likely you would spend some 400 euros . Add to that some 50 euros for power, 25 or 30 for water, and maybe 50 for phone and internet, and you will have your fixed predictable expenses covered - around half of your budget. this would leave you some 600 to 650 euros free ... problem would be rent...

Actually Katja is good for me. She doesn't let me have things my own way and pushes me to do more. Yes she can be opinionated, but not in a bad way, and she's usually right.

Although you are so different, and intriguing the way you balance the life you choose! Yes Katia is bossy (like me!) and Robin is not ( but full of love! Or not! ). Katia tell us more about your perfect skin! Cooking healthy food and art ideas! Boa semana! Enjoy life!

My goodness go easy on the girl! She is only trying to create content and useful content that might help others. Katia agreed with Robin except for the timing of the tree planting and she let her opinion known regarding the money aspect. Surely both opinions are valid. They are both participating in the adventure so she asked his opinion and then voiced her own.
