In today's video I had one of the worst mornings handling cattle in a long time and got a very sore thumb on top of it all. The reseed is struggling so needed some TLC and we said goodbye to Debbie

I remember what it’s like to get attached to the stock, a young calf came to us after he lost his mother and I bottle fed him etc. he was just like a puppy and I couldn’t afford to buy him myself…..RIP Freddie the Friesian . I was so gutted and he was ace

Hi Karen, only discovered your channel a week ago, recommended by Adrian of Ifarm Wefarm and I am enjoying your videos. Delighted to see you spreading Tipperary grass (from my home county). Maybe you could grow a crop of hurlers to compete with the Limerick and Clare lads 🤗. I love the way you care for the animals and wish you all the best for the future and take care of yourself, you don't want anything worse than a sore thumb.

Another charming video, Karen! Sorry 'bout the thumb...I've experienced similar mishaps. I'm always amazed you can get grass to grow on ROCKS! I would be very interested to learn how live-weight pricing compares between your steers and cows. Over here (Florida) bulls, young or old aren't worth carrying and are invariably "more trouble than they're worth...." (excepting/unless they have some good bloodlines) BTW, it's not true that Fl. has no rocks....we do have rocks...they're available (in plastic bags...) from most any home-improvement center.....otherwise it's just sand, sand and more sand----many believe the peninsula was formed from the runoff from the rest of the continent after the flood. The only "upside" is that we have a 12-month weeding (and mowing...) season. lol We always enjoy your videos. Put an "Ace" bandage (stretchy, compression wrap) on that hand and try to ignore it for a few days, at least.

Karen. Have a look at the Clipex range of cattle crushes/panels and handling equipment. If you are ever passing ENNIS , they have a large showroom on The Quin road. I installed one of their basic crushes myself and am delighted with it, in terms of safety working alone, as well as having a secure way to handle cattle for dosing, clipping, weighing, etc. Continued success with your farming journey...

Good video again,hope your hand get better quickly,just a thought that little patch ,wear you spread grass seed what about spreading some muck about with your little muck machine that you video some time ago ,or muck from a nearby farm hard to grow thing on rocks,but muck maybe cover stones,yes it hard to let go of a animal that you hand fed,As a farm girl we were told not to get attached to the bottle fed lamb or calf,also the chicken,Why because we were told that they are going to end up on the dinner plate,that farm life of any kid’s.
@_DutchFox_10 күн бұрын
Oh my ... it really schocked me to see your hand between the cow and the bar. I'm so it is "only" the thumb and you did not break the hand. Tip what we sometimes do is grass seed and fertilizer together in the spreader, just mix it. That will spread it a bit better. But I'm sure it will grow, just give it some time because it is already end of the summer it goes a bit slower. Take care and I hope your thumb will go better soon !!

Karen can I just tell you a story 🤔 when I was working on farm OMG years ago, when I was young and daft I had a cow a Hereford cow see loved me and she calved a lovely calf, story short, me and my mates whent to a agricultural show and i and friends had to meny 🍻 i came back to farm my friends mother through a bucket of water 💧 over us 😢, i decided that the only best place to stay was with my cow a calf😮 was perfect until manager of the family came around and though the cow had killed me 😊 i was just asleep at the yard at the side of her with her calf, end of the day i could not let her go to slaughter i ending up buying her, with help from who i was working for, he agreed and said he had never witnessed a cow before been so Defensive about a person and a calf this is what I love about farming love and it breaks my heart when you have a lovely cow and you'll have to lose her, I never lost her love I saved all my money I was working at the farm to pay for her still to be there never sent her to slaughter she was my diamond P S.name was Rosie

That's cattle being cattle. They are usually quiet animals, but they loose all sense when they get stressed. Anyone with eyes can see how good you are with cattle. That's why they are so quiet when you walk around in the pastures with them. They trust you. That means everything. But as good as you are, remember, they are still animals. Something else might scare them while you are in with them and start them up. So keep up your easy nature with them, but please be careful. I am not saying this to preach. God knows I've made my share of mistakes. But accidents happen fast, and NOBODY wants to see get hurt. Take care of yourself and have a great day Karen!
