Things You Should Know About Being an Esthetician | 2024 Becoming An Esthetician

I almost didn’t post this but recently I had a chat with an fellow esthetician that shared with me her struggles and frustration about why didn’t try facials after school and I just thought wow you’re not alone and I had just interviewed another esthetician that was expressing similar frustration and she has millions of followers so I thought how can I sit down and talk about these tough issues in a way that ensures that I’m always sharing with y’all real shit!

I was talking to an old friend who’s also an esthetician and we talked about how slow this industry is and how it’s hard for us black/brown folks to get a job!!!

This is an absolutely true statement. This industry is one of influx and definitely down returns and you have to be able to manage money very well and strategically put yourself in positions that sometimes are often uncomfortable.

Finally Opening my own practice in 3 months which was supposed to happened 2 years ago but after my fiancé passed away the only strength I had was for myself and son, it took me a while to get back into what I love doing. Honestly, I felt what you said when you made it your only option because that’s exactly what I did I just know that this is where god wants me and glad to be! 2024 making it mine!! i felt you especially when you started talking about people wanting to become an esthetician but then complain about not getting clients etc. im still in school graduate in may i seen a post one day saying she regret becoming an esthie and i commented and told her like girl you have to put the work in unless you some sort of celeb or someone with some sort of social media presence then clients jsut not going to get handed to you you really have to dedicate your time to your business and believe

I say that all the time "I invested too much for this not work”. I just opened my wax business in Texas and man it’s been hard but let me tell u something I think of everything to get my business out there and on top of it I relocated from NJ to TX with zero clientele. I’m going to bust my butt for my business idc. My advice is make yourself visible because social media isn’t always it.

Yes, you are absolutely right. I’ve invested too much in this for it to not work is the best mindset to go into something because it means that you are ultra committed to the outcome that you were trying to generate which is success right so that’s how I look at it anyways too Minds think alike

Back in beauty school my teacher used to say waxing is your “bread and butter “ as in very reliable regular clients, not everyone wants to commit to laser / IPL and you can sell products which they need anyway to maximise your time , as in body scrub/ post waxing cream / ingrown hair spot treatment/spf for facial waxing / aloe vera etc etc once you get a good bikini wax you won’t want to go to new people all the time , lycon wax is fab , and men wax too , great business model , you’ll do great , clients get instant results and you can book them back in straight away as waxing is better when regular

Thank you so much! I’m currently in school and graduate in March. Giving up my whole weekend to go to school and leave my family has been so hard. But I know it’ll be worth it, I need to make it worth it! Even though I graduate in March I do plan on purchasing some customized clothing with my brand on it just to focus on marketing my social media for esthetics. Tell them to read 12 Months to a Million by Ryan Moran. It's a great book for any business. Teaches you about adding value, email marketing, cold marketing, and reaching out to influencers or industry influencers who can put your name out there. You can send them free gifts for them to review for their audience. Maybe add educational content to your audience, a weekly newsletter of spa specials, and info about the treatment or service. Every business is rough in the beginning if you are starting out with no audience.

Your speaking some serious truth on this video, its a hard lesson to learn once your graduate school. Suddenly, you have to become the practioner, web developer,business owner, ect..It can be a shock if your not prepared. University education or esthetician school, they dont teach how to run a business. Best advice my client gave to me is "Do what you love and money will always follow, follow money and there will never be enough". Ive been a massage therapist, HR professional and now enrolled in esthetician school, stay curious !

This is why you should have more than one license therefore you're not limited to one I think when you have licenses such as manicuring electrolysis, cosmetology barbering Cosmetology it will always make up so you don't have to go through the struggle I like the idea in my state is a short license you go in get your license common sense you should go back and get your instructors license because you can lean on that working in a school. is public or private.

Lowkey dislike coming across the “why I quite being a esthetician” videos on TikTok or KZbin as someone who is a student currently going into my 3rd month right now it’s discouraging and they’re normally only saying they been in the industry for 2-3 years which is short then they say they didn’t learn much but I also feel as though that it depends on the school sometimes and they forget the beauty industry is constantly evolving I’m currently under scholarship but did notice the brand that my school uses in the industry isn’t really popular in the long run so I’m also looking into other brands and I do like Circadia and IMAGE and my teacher that I have thank god is very real and honest with us when we ask questions and different things we need and should know in the real world
