I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm recently diagnosed with colorectal cancer and have been told by my medical team there's a very high chance I will end up with a stoma due to how low down my cancer is. You have pretty much covered every single question and worry I have had so far in your videos. Thank you!

You got this, Rainstorm! Best of luck on your journey! My husband's cancer was very low as well... and he just came home from the hospital after his stoma surgery, and tho he has to heal... he already feels miles better than he did when he walked into the hospital. You'll be a super star just like him!

Hi Chris. Your authenticity and willingness to wing it to address this issue is healing. I’ve had breast cancer surgery and intense colorectal surgery. My husband and I ended up divorced after being together 40 yrs- even though he had ulcerative colitis since we were in our late 20s. He had dysfunction since then. Anyways, this was merely for background not a pity party. I’m working to get my courage up to become‘eligible’ which is frightening. I don’t believe I’ll have dysfunction issues yet it’s the reaction of my potential partner that terrifies me. The scars and stoma along with its inability to control specifically. My surgeon also didn’t discuss this either. (Nor did I ask so not placing the burden on him. ) it’s a relief to hear the practical nature of our ‘wellness’ that’s refreshing. Thank you for the courage!!

Huge respect you. There is no shame in it whatsoever. My Dad had prostrate cancer and I used to talk to him openly about the subject and what a great relationship with a parent for him to tell me of his worries, concerns etc with it. Yes I agree from what Dad said a whole tablet is too much for most people. Great respect to you for being open and honest as its just part of life. On the other hand yes I'm female and just had a Urostomy so totally opposite to you 😄 I've been searching for experiences etc but I've found that there isn't much out there for Urostomy advice although I use the same products. I just wanted to say that your videos r.e the 3 in 1 spray have been really informative, natural and down to earth. Wishing you and Sydney well. Mine is called Gorgie 💙

Hi Michelle, thank you for watching and leaving a great comment. That's fantastic you have that relationship with your Dad. I have always been open and honest with my kids and they will discuss anything with me. My knowledge of urostomy is limited which is why I wouldn't do videos about it. I agree there is not a huge amount out there about urostomy. Maybe you should start a KZbin channel 😁. Thanks again for watching and best wishes to you and Gorgie 💙

I've been missing recently as I became poorly and the Dr's automatically thought " oh its the Stoma " in a good way it's not ( all is good on that front including the 3 in 1 spray, fantastic and it's changed my bag changes to half the time and half the products ) its my Gallbladder so waiting on surgery again. I hope you are well and thank you for giving me confidence to accept the new me 💙

I found your channel recently after having found out that my husband would have to have stoma surgery. I have found all of your videos reassuring, and informative. I want to thank you for having the courage to share your story the way you do. My husband just came home from the hospital today, and he is doing fantastic! I wasn't concerned about his possible E.D. for my own sake... but for his, and the feelings you described in this video about his "manliness" etc.. being affected. We don't know yet if he will have this issue or not... but now I know, that if the time comes, that he has options for dealing with it. Again...what you do is a gift to all of us, so thank you!... all my respect, and kind regards ;)

Huge respect for you for talking about this subject mate, no shame in it at all - I can completely understand why this would've made you feel like less of a man. Luckily for me I didn't have this issue following stoma surgery, but like you, it wasn't mentioned to me in the slightest that it would be a potential side effect of the op; that's really irresponsible of them in my opinion.
@sydneystoma3852 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris. Good to hear from you. I haven't seen you post anything for a long while so I hope you are ok. Yes I believe it is irresponsible of them. I am not looking to take formal action but I will ask the stoma team why this was never discussed before surgery.

Break the Viagra into quarters in advance.........you can store the broken up tablet in a air tight contact lens case ready for ''action'' .Contact Lens cases can be bought for a few pounds or scrounged from a wearer. They should be the deep type used for soft lenses and new/unused . As long as the cap(s) is secure the broken up tablets remain useable and fresh . I speak from experience !! Good Luck - you are wonderfully open and frank about a subject that too many are fearful to explain.

@@sydneystoma385 Well I know how serious my situation is, right now I have an overly active ileostomy that I pack around daily, it's heavy. I have a huge parastomal hernia I just had a CT scan on and am now pending an endoscope. It just can't come soon enough, it seems like it is dragging along and I worry something could happen between the wait and surgery. This thing is affecting my mobility so bad I am always in pain and feeling weak, but I have to laugh not at my situation it is not in the the least funny but just the whole situation blows me away some days. To see what can happen to your body in an instant and with Canada's terrible health care the waits are daunting and can make you feel so irrelevant. But I do have a sense of humour over still. If I didn't I don't know what I would do. My friends give me credit and can't believe I can still see a bright side after all this but I know it will be taken care of soon, I have an excellent female surgeon who did my emergency ileo I have total faith in. I never had crohns or colitis I had a bowel stroke just out of the blue went to stand up and collapsed and banged my head I was unconscious in the hospital for a week with ischemic inflammatory bowel then sepsis then COVID I was in hospital 6 weeks in the end but that time I did not receive an Ostomy. This happened Nov /21 but between then and Apr./22 my mobility was near nil I was weak, my blood pressure like 62/47 I was admitted to hospital by my GP who came out to my house to see me. That night the nurse did not put my bed rail up and I fell out of bed. I woke up 3 days later in ICU with a bag!! I was so shocked but on enough drugs I just thought "okay then" I was in hospital for 5 weeks in a private room. Between May when I got out and June /22 the colostomy kept prolapsing until 10" came out and I had to cut my flange off and back to ER with another emergency. It was this female surgeon who gave me a nice tidy ileo with little embroidery stitches. I was doing well with it until Nov/22 when I developed this hernia that is now a large uncomfortable scary hernia. I got it from coughing and sneezing. So now once i get my endo she will totally remove the hernia (which I guess means more bowel) I was hoping for a reversal but I have been told just how much bowel I have lost and I most likely will not get a reversal but she will remove the hernia and move my stoma a smaller stoma over to my left side. I will sleep better I know that because I am also going to be having shoulder replacement so I am lying on every sore spot on my body when I sleep and i don't sleep much. Sorry this is long but I wanted you to know I enjoy listening to your video's the way you explain it all in factual not medical terms I love it because I am very open about my situation no sugar coating. I am nervous about what the endo will find but ready for whatever it takes.

Hi Sydney, thanks for your valuable and helpful videos. I had my stoma surgery (colostomy) back in Aug 2021 due to colorectal cancer which was very low so entire rectum had to be removed and in that process there is a high chance veins which supply blood to the organ gets damaged or cut. I was not explained in detail about ED but that would not have changed my decision. I have this issue and unfortunately Viagra has not helped at all. Not tried any other options and don't know if there are any trusted and proven options out there. Waiting for an appointment with urologist for last 10 months. Thanks to you again and everyone who has contributed. if I can be of any help, please feel free to reach out.

I was not told ED would most likely be a permanent result of my colorectal surgery. As part of needed resection outside of colon, the S3 nerve was severed causing bladder retention issues as well as ED for life. Unfortunately Viagra and Cialis have no effect whatsoever. I have not tried the Penile shot.
@sydneystoma3852 жыл бұрын

Can you apply for attendance allowance, if you have this condition?
@sydneystoma3852 жыл бұрын
I take it you mean having Crohn's and a Colostomy? I have never applied for any benefits. I have been extremely unwell over the years and on one occasion had nine months of work, then weeks off here and there, thankfully I have a very good employer and nothing has ever been an issue. I haven't had time off sick for a longtime now. When I have been home for long periods my wife has looked after me. I guess we could have claimed something, but we never did. So a long answer to your question and it doesn't really answer your question. 😄
@elainepickup29572 жыл бұрын
I was asking because I live on my own, and it would help me if I could pay for someone to care for me after the op.. I have since found out you have to be pensionable age to apply for it. And they don’t give you the benefit after you have the “bowels out”. As they deem you cured.
@MSchipper Жыл бұрын
@@elainepickup2957 That's ridiculous really... In the Netherlands we could get post-op care, just while we need it post-op. Meal service would be out of pocket, if cooking is an issue. But there would be a nurse coming round plus someone to do some cleaning. Could you appeal and ask for assistance to prevent a hernia or something?
