Tough to hear, but you better try to invest in a splitter that's twice the size of this one, or two more of what you've got. Defiantly overworking this one! SO! YOU'RE THE CAT SELLING THAT OVERPRICED, 5 CHUNK BAG OF NOTHIN' AT THE GAS STATION!?! LOL, YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY TIMES ME/MY FRIENDS HAVE CUSSED YOUR ASS! Look, all you can do is stay with it, something ALWAYS seems to happen for the good if you keep working hard. IT WILL KEEP YOUR MIND RIGHT STAYING BUSY AS WELL! I did firewood in Texas in my early 20's. Had some lean times until I had a repeat client base built. Make someone happy with your work, it will come back to save ya'! ~Best, M.M.

Hang in there Andy. I have been even further down the ladder than you are now. I was splitting by hand. One of the things I did was to take orders for the next cord. I had to be honest with my customers. I would tell them where they were in line. Most of the time people were patient with me. When someone backed out I would just call the next person in line and see if they wanted the current order. Before I knew it I looked up and things were going just fine. Have a great day.

The one downside of a box store splitter is how long you can work it in the sunmer heat.

Have been doing firewood for 5yrs as side gig, and still don’t think I can branch onto a full time business. Have a campground that buys bundles, repeat facecord seasonal customers, and a tree service dumps on my property. Making profit but be slow at it as a full on business.

Right before I shut it down, I was right on the verge of going full time with it. All I needed was 1 more year to pay off my debt and I would have been golden. Then life happened. All you can do is think positive and keep moving forward.

Andy, are you familiar with the stroke limiter modification you can easily do on that splitter of yours with a piece of string? Search 'log splitter stroke limiter', you'll get some ideas. Might save you a few seconds, seconds add up to minutes...

I have seen a few of them done but not with a string. it sounds kind of interesting.

I know exactly what you mean about the financial aspects. Thanks for the shout out. Is there anyway that you can find standing dead ash or barkless ready to burn cherry or oak or something that you can flip immediately? Right now I owe my supplier Nate $950, Mike $250, and my friend Jay $300 that I borrowed from him. My sales have been decent in May after a crappy February, March and April. My inventory is way below what it should be for the upcoming massive fall season. Don’t forget that it took me 13 years to get where I’m at today.

I've pretty much cleared all of the standing dead in the woods I have access to, the way the wood dries here I only need a few weeks of dry and a slight breeze and it will be dry. The problem I'm having is I can split it fast enough.

@@outdoorswithandy732 More, BIGGER EQUIPMENT! (Ask ANY girl!) At this point it's "sink or swim" time. More money invested will HURT right now, but if you stay stagnant with your equipment, ANY "down- time" will be worse! Now, this is the way sparks turn into fire here in our country,... A smart investor (or more) IS MORE crucial now than ever and stands to get in at the RIGHT MOMENT! Industry relies on moments like this EVERY SINGLE DAY! (It's called THE STOCK MARKET! SO, OK. You have your story and a handful of hurt feelings. Time to "suck it up". Get out there/show others that "You got this"! and then, KICK SOME GODZILLA'S ASS! Those so-called "investors" WON'T line up UNTIL you demonstrate some REAL BALLS! Oh, and QUIT pushing that WEAK-ASS gas station kindling, you need a positive selling structure, NOT being known as the guy that sells "Welfare Wood"! I got back home from the Hoosier veterans event. And im down with bad teeth. Have to hire in somone to do some logging at a % of load as me or especially my father cannot work. Hes basically disabled, just not legally. . All i can do is some prep work around the farm. As the pain tires me out way too fast. Luckily it hasn't been sunny mostly sub 60F days sence i got back, so i dont have the staggering pain in my jaw that makes me unable to do anything but sleep. Plus the loaders down, so i can not restack my firewood cutting spot. Its in the wiring somewhere, starter will not power to crank. . Anyway yea i get what your saying, life can really suck at times.

i dont believe employees are possible at this level firewood buisness, splitt when you can, split when it rains and you cant due other things splitt all you can , store all the wood untill fall and sell as expensive as you can and sell green when people call. allmost no firewood venders exclusivly sell firewood, im a tree service, firewood a percentage of buisness lots of guys are loggers, agian firewood is a percentage of buisness other guys are farmers, same deal probally the 3 most common occupations to be a firewood vendor keep at it and youll forgot about all the work in november when all you due is deliver wood

Definitely not the easiest way to make money. Probably just have work it yourself for year or more. Getting wood that can sell not just tons work. Keep your head up
