At first when my family first got our first pig, he came in a small cage as mentioned in the video. My mom said that he was happy in his own cage, but then after a lot of persuading she got the materials for a cnc. We then built it under my bunk bed, and he was happier then ever. Next the thing we tried to do was reach out to a rescue near by for a second. Zero responses. We didn’t want to get one from a pet store, so we waited until someone put something up on facebook. The day someone did, we made arrangements to get their pig who was also coming from a small cage, and we introduced him to our pig, spike, and now they live happily in a 3x4 cage.

When i first got Whiskers, I didnt know anything about piggies. I got him all these things at Petsmart. He just sat in the ball & never moved. He didnt like the treats either. Tho, he/they love the food there... but i noticed theyll eat any bag of food. Even if its the more healthy ones. I took apart his cage & used those walls as doors & a barrier. For when him & Axl get into it. Or the rare times i take them out. Their cage is so big, i dont really need to give thrm roam time. Idk what i was doing at Lowes, 💡oh yeah i do. I tried looking around for better cages but i couldnt find any. So i figured if i walked around at Lowes, looking at things, I could come up w/ some idea. I found some rack things, or i guess shelves that ppl can prob screw into the wall. But they have side pieces that make them stand on their own. & Its strong & sturdy. Has bars just like a cage, so they can see through. I got four of them & pretty much just stuck them together w/ 🤔 idk what those things are called. But theyre used to keep things attached to each other. Plastic that goes through a hole, & the grip becomes tighter depending how much u pull it through. It can only come a part when you cut it. Yeah, those things. I put shower liners underneath & fleeces on top. Their cage is so huge, i could lay down in it & sleep there & theyd still have plenty of room. I want to get a 3rd male. 😁 Ppl say im crafty. 💁🏻♀️ It works. & Theyre happy. They never jump out & im pretty sure thats the exact reason why they dont fight hard. Also, i dont understand how ppl think they stink. Well, ppl on the internet. Bc in person ill question myself & ask others. They cant smell anything either. I thought maybe i just got to used to them. Prob if i got closer, theyd smell like grass but thats it. But then i thought, they have so much space, itd be harder to accumulate smell bc theyre not as confined in the same small area for however long. Using it all the time. Whoever says they stink, idk. That seems more like a them issue.

I have three guineapigs, and the reason I have never bought them a hamster wheel is because guineapigs are cleverer than hamsters and will realise there is no point of the wheel as it goes round in circles btw this video should go more viral !! 👍👍❤️

From day 1 regarding bedding I have ONLY used Timothy hay. After a few months i started using fleece blankets as the bedding for their cage They eat the Timothy hay as the required 80% diet staple. Then i add pellets; ALWAYS ALWAYS avalivle pellets. Always And a clean water bottle. Done. M. IL
@GuineaPiggles4 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you're doing a great job and it's really important they have hay available at all times. But be careful you don't overfeed with pellets - they should have about an eighth of a cup a day plus about a cup of veggies per piggy a day. The hay is the primary food :)

I adopted my niece's hamster who came in.....yes, a pet-shop cage! AND a small wheel and ball 😢. All went in the bin 😀. I set up a large home for him, he had everything a hammy could wish for. Buddy was already an elderly gent,(approx 15 mnths) but he was one happy boy who lived another 8 months. He passed away peacefully and stress free. He now rests in my garden 🙏. It worries the life out of me that pet stores put profits before care! 😢 Your Piggies are adorable and you are another of my favourite people who are a voice for our Furry Family 😍

Some farm hay can be very dusty, have parasites and cause respiratory issues to your piggies. It's important to know if your countryside hay is treated and aired a minimum. Watch for luzern also, it's not good for them.
@blossomthefox2274 жыл бұрын
You should avoid certain woods, such as cedar and pine. You can give them oak, maple, elder and willow.

@@drumboy940 hay from stores is still farm hay. It's all the same, they all can carry bugs, animal parts, etc. Farmers look through the fields before harvest as best they can but sometimes there are things left behind, like mice, rabbit, plastic, snakes, etc. Happens to all brands, becomes like a luck of the draw sort of thing as to who happens to get the bale/bag with the missed bits lol

I know this is how it works with rabbits but I’m not too sure with it about guinea pigs. Rabbits as well have a really delicate bone structures and cannot use hay racks because it’s making their head go upward instead of how they naturally Graze on the ground if you look at both of their mouths you can see that their mouth is pointing towards the floor. And with rabbits when they use a hayrack it forces a muscle that they never use so it can be dangerous also if it is a wire hayrack they also have to turn their heads and look up so I was just wondering if that was the same with guinea pigs :)
@GuineaPiggles4 жыл бұрын
We're not experts on rabbits so can't comment on that but these hayracks are safe for piggies so there is no worry there. The wire hay balls are really dangerous though as they can get stuck and there are other hayracks that can be dangerous too. We only use and recommend the safe ones. :) You can check out the hayracks we use in our Hay video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2HLkIqonrGgnpY :)
@Abandon3dRain4 жыл бұрын
Same for piggies, it also severely limits the amount of hay they get, they need it 24/7 as their teeth are open rooted and it is used to sleep, burrow, play in, eat, pee and poo.

When I first had peegs I got a leash and harness not knowing better and my pigs ended up being way too fat to even fit in it so I threw it out. Years later I know better now but I honestly can’t imagine any pig that isn’t a baby fitting in one still

Thank you for you feedback Juliet :) It's great that you're learning from our videos. I just had a quick look and the description does say they're dust extracted and that they have natural odour control so they should be fine. It might be worth buying a smaller pack and testing it out just to check you're happy with them before getting more :) We also recommend some on our website here - these are the ones that we've tried ourselves www.guineapiggles.co.uk/article/pine-bedding

Here’s a recipe for Guinea pig cookies, they love them. Ingredients: hay dust (the crumbs at the bottom of the bag, or just sift a handful of hay) Unsugared apple sauce Pellets (like chocolate chips for us humans) Shredded carrots Small Apple chunks. Mix all the ingredients until it forms a paste, and line a baking tray with parchment paper and add teaspoon sized dollops. Bake until “golden” and dry. Guinea pigs, (or atleast mine) really enjoy them

Guinea pigs can have grass but make sure it's not contaminated with any chemicals or weed killers etc. Also, make sure it's just grass you're picking as other plants such as daisies and buttercups are poisonous - more about these here kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJPFYYpsnbqsgZo. I would add snak shak products to this list. They are NOT good for guinea pigs but are very popular as treats / hides and sold all over the place. They are made with some sort of glue and wood shavings that your guinea pig will then swallow. Also, if you are buying a hide, the idea is they hide in it not eat it.

The only thing I have for my guineapig is a salt lick but she is quite a picky eater so almost all the treats I try to give her she doesnt like. She just prefers to eat what she normally eats and even gets excited for hay (she is smol brained) overall I know she's a happy healthy bean so that's what matters the most. Not like she is digging it down she just nibbles it a little once in a while.
