I think Nolan assumed that he would have to say goodbye to Mark after some time, whether from him being assigned missions by the Viltrum empire, or Mark having to be disposed of or some other scenario would come up that would have him leave. That was BRUTAL and heartbreaking!! The sound of the blows was painful!! But very emotional and hearttouching when Omniman said: _"what will you have after 500 years!?!"_ Mark: _"you dad. I'd still have you."_ That actually brought tears to my eyes again... It's too emotional... I completely ignored the meme in this!!

I think with the amazing acting J K Simmons provides, and the fantastic writing for Omni-Man and Mark, people tend to overlook just how amazing Mark's mom is. She's a fantastic character through the show. A great mother, and awesome wife, and a wonderful person - a wonderful _human,_ genuinely making Nolan feel for humanity (or rather Mark) just that bit more, even if it ultimately isn't her that convinces him he's on the wrong path.

Couldn’t get over how Mark still called him dad after all that

I mean, before all of that he was still his loving father. No idea about anything he was thinking or planning. Takes a time for someone to come to terms of what people they though they knew to hit them.

@@eternallk1ngs_57 It depends on the person and the situation. I mean, if someone you've known all your life and loved and cared for you suddenly went awol like Omni-man, some people still cling to what they remember them as rather than just outright hating out the gate. It's sudden and unexpected and you're still processing what just happened. Like I said, you need time to process everything that just happened.
