Our biggest problem with this car on the highway is that we are doing 80 before we know it. We drive from sea level up to 7,000 and down to 4,500 every weekend. We pass almost all other cars uphill. Underpowered - not at all!!! A little loud - yes - turn up the stereo. Much better looking than any other prius. We carry bikes and a large paddleboard on it. Much more comfortable than a mini!! You will always get the last laugh at the gas station.

Best car I ever owned. My wife use it to del mail, 250 stop and go every day she now has 530,000 km. And that hwy and city driving. No battery problems it has two and I’ve never change them on a 2012 bought new

As a truck driver I always said I'd never own one of little piece of sh**'s. Then because of my long commute I ended up driving my wife's. It's not a bad car at all. I kind of enjoy driving it. This is a pretty fair review of it. Mine is a 2014. And they do lack power on the freeway but I seem to be passing everyone anyway. If I'm racing a Camaro for the next lane I'm going to lose but I cruise across 200 miles each way at 80mph much more then that it does fill like a rubber band is going to break! After driving a f-250 everywhere I love that I can park the Prius in any spot in the parking lot. And to me the visibility is great unless your trying to look over the car in front of you! I didn't understand the comment that it's hard to see out the back window. any little car with a passenger is going to be hard to see around!

The Prius C has adequate power and speed. It is small, but still enjoyable to drive. In city driving, can yield over 80 mpg with a lot of stop and go driving allowing the hibrid battery to charge and discharge. It's a great little car for what it's made for.

I have a 2013. It is good enough and gets great mileage. I’ve driven it on road trips from New Jersey to California from my Illinois home. It is also good for city and suburban commuting.

Drove prius C with all my stuff and my Dad across Canada. You get every drop of power out of 99 HP and feels like you get more than just the 99 HP.

I agree with the review. You have to RED LINE i.e. pedal to the metal if you want to keep up with the aggressive drivers but it EXCELS at cruising. Just going without pushing into the accelerator is a pleasing experience in this vehicle.

I don't agree with the comment about the car being slow when passing etc.In normal mode there is plenty of power available with around 74 kwatts .I own a Japanese version Toyota Aqua and have never had a problem climbing steep hills ...We have a very steep stretch of highway here in Auckland New Zealand called The Bombay Hills.The Aqua passes bigger cars with ease and keeps gaining in speed,doing over 100kmh all the way up to the top.

Just brought a 2017 Prius C, all the negative comments about performance surprised me. From doing 90KPH to 130KPH for an overtake in seconds. No one should need to drive faster than 130KPH normally. I went from home in Masterton to Wellington (NZ) , 104KM, over the Remutaka hills, which are also steep and twisty, cost me $8 in gas. An awesome little car.

If the guy driving the F-150 with the Coyote 5.0L V8 or the Crazy Soccer Mom with 20 kids driving an Expedition don't feel like letting you in YOU WON'T be able to overtake them. If I'm not mistaken he's based in the USA. You can't compare our traffic and psychopath drivers with the ones in your island. 😁

This is great info! I just bought one sight unseen and will be picking It up in a few days. I actually grew up having to commute over the Bombays and it was always the test for a new car. If it could make it all the way to the BP station without having to drop down a gear and crawl up at 80km/h then you had a good car.

@@anietytretra7168 I know your comment is old, but i will answer it anyway. I would say that you should get it, is among the most reliable vehicles from Toyota, and most efficient too, looks small from the outside but is quite big in the inside.

@@anietytretra7168 I have a 2012 Prius C myself and it has been a really practical, efficient and reliable car. The only thing that went wrong, and cost me quite a big amount of money to fix was the brake booster assembly and brake pump assembly. All 4 brake lights turned on and the pump was running constantly because there was an internal leak in the brake booster assembly, i kept driving the car for like 4 months with this issue until the brake pump motor burnt our and i lost all brake power, i was able to get home safely. Because i ignored the brake lights and continued to drive the car, the total amount of money i had to put on it to buy these 2 parts was about $2,600, note that the brake pump assembly, which burnt out because of my fault by ignoring the brake lights, costs about $1000, at least here where i live. If i did not ignored the brake lights the only piece i would had to replace would be the brake booster assembly, which is quite expensive, but knowing that my Prius C is from the first ones that came out it most likely had the same defective brake booster that almost all gen 3 Prius had before Toyota placed a warranty to replace such part.

I have owned my 2013 Prius C-3 from new and it has been the best urban runabout and all-round little car I could have ever bought. It is quick enough, comfortable enough, roomy enough and very economical. I love mine after 10 trouble free years.If you are lucky enough to find a good one, and it suits your needs then grab it!

Thank you for pointing out to the poor rearward visibility of the car, have to slap a fresnel lens to make things more livable. Also the interior rearview mirror blocks a decent chunk of forward view; one time I failed to see a transit bus on a four way stop.

Unfortunately, the C has been discontinued. Reminds me of my 1st generation Prius (which I still have). The 1.5 is reliable, long lasting, bullet-proof design . You don’t need to red line the engine to keep up with traffic. You must be doing something wrong, or engine needs servicing. You can also ruin the engine; some really bad advice.

Every bit of this is perspective. If you are used to a larger vehicle this will be a factor. But the hogwash about entering traffic or passing is just plain false. If I need to merge it merges. If I need to pass it passes. Period. I have averaged 52 mpg since new and I have taken it on long highway vacation drives. Obviously you pack more efficiently and learn that 50% of the stuff you are used to taking you never use.

Camry is bigger and smoother ride with less noise. More premium feel, but you pay more for it. Not as efficient since it is a bigger car and bigger engine anyway.

Why are you letting your gas tank get so low? Do you realize the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel itself and you risk over heating it and damaging the pump when you let the gas tank get low like that?

I am looking at the 3 package/new 2016 clearance, but I might save over 5 grand and buy a new Mirage SE 5 speed instead for 12 grand. 42-45 is common city for the Mirage, and 50+ for highway.

So, it is not a good idea to drive cars with less than a quarter tank of gas in them. I noticed the reviewer’s fuel level was on the bottom (and last “pip”) and was flashing, indicating that the gas tank is almost empty. Most cars have the fuel pump inside the gas tank. The fuel pump is both cooled, and lubricated, by being within the gasoline in the tank. When the tank has less than 1/4 of a tank of gas left, the fuel pump starts getting exposed to air and is no longer cooled and lubricated properly. This gets worse as the gas tank gets even emptier. This will result in the fuel pump wearing out sooner and needing to be replaced prematurely. Fuel pumps aren’t super expensive but they are certainly not cheap. I think a mechanic will typically charge around $700 or so to do the job in 2022. So take care of your fuel pump by not running your car on a nearly empty or low fuel level gas tank.

Honda is making a new 2019 Honda insight. Its really a Civic body and not the 2 seater insight coupe we know. Its a civic hybrid that gets ebtter gas mileage and drives liek a regular car. The Yaris is garbage.

I have had two different vehicle fleets and Toyotas have both outlasted and had fewer issues with them than any of the Honda's or Mazda's we used. Literally every week we had a Civic in the shop with some problem or another. Another big thing, is if you're 5'10 or above, the Honda Civics feel a lot more cramped than even a Toyota Yaris. Also have to disagree with the Yaris being garbage.
