Why would he assume two amps cancel each other out? Why would they? I've never looked into how the formulas work exactly but I never thought, even for a second, damage multipliers wouldn't stack somehow. That's just what any gamer would assume instinctively.
@d15p4tch64 ай бұрын
I have no idea why he would think that - intuitively you'd think they'd either add or multiply. Plus, its super easy to test and see "number go up" even if you don't do the math to see if it's multiplication or addition. @HustleLifee5 ай бұрын
So basically at the end of the day you want to get as much multiplicative damage as you can on your build which will give you higher dps numbers. I'm honestly shocked Identity did not know this, and how the multiplier for multiplicative damage works. No wonder he is all about the hybrid, and skill builds. He doesn't actually understand the dps side of things. Great explanation!
@d15p4tch65 ай бұрын
I mean, hybrid builds arent bad per se, you just want to maximize your hybrid by understanding the damage calculations lol. I'm all for imaginative builds as long as they make some sense. Honestly, Ive always been surprised by how few people know basic things about the game, even myself included sometimes. But that's why communication of these things is so important.

So if obliterate is 1.25 and striker with the backpack gives 100% amp, that means i get 1+(100/100)=2 right ? So now, 1.25×2= 2.5 ? So i get 250% dmg ??? I'm so lost 😅
@mamba96Ай бұрын
Or 50% dmg ? If 1.15×1.15=1.3225 that's 32.25% more dmg what is going to be 2.5000 ? Why the "1" in 1.3225 goes away ? If this "1" goes away, "2" also goes away ? That means that 2.5000 is 50% more dmg ?
@d15p4tch6Ай бұрын
@@mamba96 you are so close! Great work. You get 2.5x your damage in the first example. If we are going to translate that back into a % increase, we need to subtract 1, then multiply by 100% (reverse order of how we translated % into a multiplier). So for that case, it would be (2.5-1)*100 = 150%. Same process that you did correctly for spotter and flatline!

How does math work? 🤔🤣 To be fair, the wordings and inconsistencies in div2 are legion (gotten better lately but still many inconsistencies). And its not clear what multipliers are in the same class and thus additive with each other within that class vs truly independent (and thus exponentially scaling) amplifiers. Side note, optimist is a shit DPS talent, generally speaking.

@grumpyoldman6503 @the sidenote I thought this too, but then i realized it´s unconditional. Most of the "better" Talents rely on an activation. Pulse, Kill, Damaging Skill. So i changed my opinion to "not shit but also not great" :) Subjectively speaking: best Weapon/Talent = AUG SMG/Fast Hands :)
@vilandesch5 ай бұрын
I agree with all, but why didn´t you adress the Hunter and Intimidate Buff, where each stack is an amplifier on it´s own? This would be the perfect example to show, why this term was introduced in the first place. Amplification is not an mathematical operation. The description of the Hunter Talent is correct, whereas the description of Intimidate is false. Hunter gives 5* 5% Amplifiers (1 + 0.05)·(1 + 0.05)·(1 + 0.05)·(1 + 0.05)·(1 + 0.05) = 1.28 (1 + 0.5)^5 = 7.59 Intimidate gives 9* 4% Amplifiers (1 + 0.04)·(1 + 0.04)·(1 + 0.04)·(1 + 0.04)·(1 + 0.04)·(1 + 0.04)·(1 + 0.04)·(1 + 0.04)·(1 + 0.04) = 1.42 (1 + 0.04)^9 = 1.42 When Heartbreaker was introduced every stack was an 1% amplifier; it was fun as long as it lastet :) (1 + 0.01)^100 = 2.7 At the beginning Striker stacks were also 1% Amplifiers so they changed the wording from "wepon hits amplify total weapon damage" to "wepon hits increase total weapon damage", what makes it somewhat correct, but it can be confused with the "other increase total weapon damage" (1 + 0.01)^50 = 1.64 Total weapon damage is the result of the equation and not the name a modifier, Hence the two descritions "increase Total Weapon damage" and "amplifies Total Weapon damage" And the simplest form of the equation is: NewTotalWeaponDamage=PreviousTotalWeaponDamage+PreviousTotalWeaponDamage*CurrentModifier: Yn=Yp+Yp*M -> Yn=Yp(1+M) M1 to Mn are the Damage Modifiers in no particular order Y0=Basedamage Y1 = Y0*(1 + M1) Y2 = Y1*(1 + M2)=Y0*(1 + M1)*(1 + M2) Y3 = Y2*(1 + M3)=Y0*(1 + M1)*(1 + M2)*(1 + M3) Y4 = Y3*(1 + M4)=Y0*(1 + M1)*(1 + M2)*(1 + M3)*(1 + M4) Y5 = Y4*(1 + M5)=Y0*(1 + M1)*(1 + M2)*(1 + M3)*(1 + M4)*(1 + M5) Yn = Y4*(1 + M5)=Y0*(1 + M1)*(1 + M2)*(1 + M3)*(1 + M4)*(1 + M5)* ... *(1 + Mn) And i agree, that massive is bad in their wording. And i still don´t get it, that DTA or DTOC is called multiplicative, when every Damage Modifier (and i mean the total value, not the single value on the item) is multiplicative. edit: deleted the Austrian saying. if you are not familiar with the Austrian mindset, it could be misinterpreted. :) 😀
@d15p4tch65 ай бұрын
I didn't address HF or Intimidate because I honestly didn't think about it lol I should have included it. That certainly adds to the number of amplifiers. As far as everything else you discussed, I didn't want to get into any analogies or do any distribution or explore alternative points of view, because I just wanted to state the facts as simply and helpfully as I can. While "total weapon damage" is likely an output or quotient in the equation rather than a variable, it's much easier to understand by just assigning a name to each multiplier. If we treat part of the equation as Total Weapon Damage, then we want to keep track of what multipliers are part of TWD and which aren't, even though the distinction is immaterial, since they function the same. For example, we could get into the weeds parsing out the equation from it's "most correct" form with lots of addition and then resolve it into the final equation, going through the fact that, in fact, multiplication is just shorthand for addition, but yeah, it ends up looking the same. We could do a theoretical proof, but I think that would just add confusion instead of relieve it. I have no idea what the last part of your comment says, as I am an ignorant American... Thanks as always for your insightful comments!

@@d15p4tch6 When you look at your weapon in your inventory, you will see "Total Damage" calculated by Y1=Y0+Y0*M1; Y0 = Basedamage, M1 = All Weapon Damage + Weapontype Damage. massive omitted the word "weapon"because it´s obvious, that it is Total Weapon Damage. On the other hand, it´s important to specify on items, if the modifier applies to weapons, skills or all of them. Then massive messed it up by not giving this variable a proper name. Just a description. And they made it worse, by coloring only "Total Weapon Damage" orange and not the whole "increase the Total Weapon Damage". So someone came up with his own label. And messed it up too. I don´t understand why "aplifies TWD" became AMP and "increase TWD" did not become INC or incTWD to be consistent with e.g. DToC or DTA. We are talking Math, there are no alternative views :) I only wanted to show how to get from Basedamage to the "end" calculation. I did not imply that you have to do the calculation step by step. i tried to show that, if you have 2 Modifiers the calculation is just Y2 = Y0*(1 + M1)*(1 + M2) and if you have 8 Modifiers the calculation is just Y8 = Y0*(1 + M1)*(1 + M2)*(1 + M3)*(1 + M4)*(1 + M5)*(1 + M7)*(1 + M7)*(1 + M8) As i am a non ignorant Austrian :)
