You aren't truly progressive unless you started out as a jazz quartet and now play industrial music on top of a cliff 🙄

strange how you erase an entire part of shining's albums. what about the fact that they comes from jazz and merging elements from king crimson to dillinger escaoe plan they melted metal and jazz and gave new approaches in modern rock? are you listening what jorgen translates from coltrane to metal jazz or just you get that "industrial production" and think that's all? it seems you haven't listened the interview, sorry

@@danmihut1481 sir I'm not going to defend whatever joke I was making 5 years ago because I don't remember the context, but I guarantee I didn't mean for anyone to take the comment too seriously

Love Shining and their music! But I don't fully agree with his critics on prog rock/metal. Shining itself isn't that prog anymore, by the way.

The last album wasn't that's right, they may be trying to reach a wider audience, but to me he's right about prog rock/metal, it has become a genre of music with it's templates and limitations, just like Punk has for example a certain set of rules, same for prog.

haha! totally agree with him in case of `progressive metal` bands. aside of a very few exceptions. on the other hand, i wonder why shining lately changed into a pretty `standard rock` direction. it may be a challange to play it for a person who is used to play complex demanding stuff, but after all u have to like it to play it. it`s not about the simplicity, it`s about being `standard` and less or even non unique.

Don't worry, he'll probably be playing classical music or something in a few years.

Could you please tell me the name of their jazz quartet album?

from the Wiki: Their first album, Where the Ragged People Go, was released 5 November 2001.[14] At a time when the young Norwegian jazz scene was dominated by future jazz, as pioneered by Bugge Wesseltoft and Nils Petter Molvær, Shining received a lot of attention by playing modern and energetic acoustic jazz. Their music especially contrasted that of Jaga Jazzist, a band of which Jørgen Munkeby had been a member since 1994.[15] The band's John Coltrane and Ornette Coleman-inspired sound[6][14] was further developed on their second album, Sweet Shanghai Devil, released by Jazzland Recordings in 2003. Their music became freer, incorporating more elements from outside the jazz idiom, but remained entirely acoustic.

Thank you! It seems it isn't on Spotify or iTunes store to purchase :( Listening to International BlackJazz Society. Great stuff man. Thanks once again for helping me discover great prog music.

Yes, i suppose the first few albums would be more "obscure". I haven't heard them either. I have everything from BlackJazz forward. Love it.
