Rescue Diver: Is It The Best Course in Recreational Diving?

Rescue is when you really earn your spurs as a diver and sets you up for future development . It instills confidence in your own abilities and you become a far more valuable asset on any dive boat. As you say Gary, repetition is key as is refreshing one's own skills. Loved teaching it. The sense of pride people feel having completed a Rescue is tangible and if taught right can be very rewarding. All the best teachers incorporate some serious learning with good old fashioned fun. I know this is the way you teach.

I agree rescue is an awesome class. However, my instructor was ex-military, 20 years in the Army and it was crazy intense. I mean, crazy pool fights, lol, but it was actually pretty fun. Maybe a little too much but fun.

OK, that's not inside the performance requirements. But its a dry subject, and physically demanding too - so anything a pro can use to make it fun and memorable.... way to go

Rescue is not only the most valuable, it’s one of the most fun, for both students and the DMs. I love hamming it up and being a victim. And at 6’2” 200lbs, the students are shocked when they realize they can carry or drag me out of the surf or onto the side of the pool. My instructors are like you - a good balance between serious and fun.

That's the key. Its a serious and dry subject. You learn a lot more through it when its hard work, but fun. Adds to the real sense of achievement. But its like the climb over Pen-Y-Fan. You don't enjoy it at the time, but its a real accomplishment when you look back at it afterwards.
