I chat to Jennifer from AppleOak Fibre Works. Jennifer has been a natural dyer for over 18 years and she gives us a tour of her studio space, chats about her two indigo vats (one a mineral vat and one is a fermentation vat), and she talks about the field scale woad experiments they are doing to see which variety produces the best blues in the Irish climate. We also chat about processing and harvesting woad, and then some contact dyeing.

Every time I watch one of these videos I say that was my favourite, but this one topped them all. I a fascinated by the way wool and other fibres are changed by water and plant material. For you as a dyer, it must have been an Aladdin’s cave. Thanks Emma for sharing part of your journey x

This was fantastic! I do a little bit of natural dyeing with local garden plants but I realize it is a huge rabbit hole with so much to learn about and experiment with. I will look in to AppleOak Fibre Works. Jennifer is doing amazing work with dyeing with plants. Thank you!!
