Note on the SSD upgradability: you should only use single-sided M.2 SSD (the 2TB seems to be the maximum size for now), though hopefully we might see single-sided 4TB SSD in the future.

It's clever that you started opening the base cover from the back, since there are less clips, and also, if you break any of them, it wouldn't be too bad since it's just the back, and it wouldn't affect the usability. Unfortunately, it's too late for me.
@GreenGreenStore3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. The note seems to always to visit the hardware service manual first (I know the colleague in the video did this because the base cover design has changed a slightly). 😶

How is putting the thermal pad on the BOTTOM SIDE of the SSD where there are NO chips to transfer heat going to help anything?? The basic uses of a heat pad is to put it on the top side which houses the chips. WTH??
@GreenGreenStore Жыл бұрын
Yep. 😂 That's how it comes. It's PCIe 3 so thankfully it doesn't get too hot anyway.

heat transfers through the bottom as well

Hi, thanks a lot for these instructions. Do you know if a SSD with a heatsink fits into this notebook? I want to use a seagate firecuda 530 4tb. This one is single sided, but there is a big heatsink on one side...
@GreenGreenStore2 жыл бұрын
Heatsink most likely will not fit. It's only PCIe 3 speed on this model so wouldn't suggest go too over the top with the SSD beyond PCIe3.
@klwthe3rd Жыл бұрын
@@GreenGreenStore Ok this model can take a PCIe Gen 4. Check the original spec sheet that comes for this laptop. Gen 4 dude.

Hi! First of all, congratulations, this was a really useful, but not overcomplicated video with an understandable explanation. I have a question, how to reset the laptop through the hole shown at the end of the video, and what does it refer to, how well does it return to its original state? I've forgotten my BIOS password, so I'm looking for a simple way to get back in, so I thought maybe this button would help. Thanks!
@GreenGreenStore Жыл бұрын
Bios password, if forgotten - requires a replacement motherboard from Lenovo's perspective.
@Digit_ALF Жыл бұрын
@@GreenGreenStore Then that's sad. I don't think they do it under warranty. (it still has a 2-year warranty) It is a permanent work tool, so it is not a good idea to send it for service. Is there no other way to delete this password?

Great and simple vid. Once the ssd is swapped, is there anything i need to do in the settings for the laptop to recognize it? Or should i be good to go once i turn it on?

Should be able to install OS next.

@@GreenGreenStore im very new to this. Will that happen automatically via transfer or is the OS installed on the current ssd and will need to be transferred to the new one somehow?

Renewed) Lenovo X1 Carbon Intel 6th Gen Core i7 6500U 14-Inch (35.56 cms) 1980x1080 Thin and Light Laptop (8 GB/256 GB SSD/Windows 10 Pro/MS Office 2019 /Intel/Black/1.90 Kg), Thinkpad X1 Carbon This is the configuration given in the Amazon, can I go for it. I like to use it for software development, Android app development, Python programming etc. Price is 700$ approx. I did not understand which Gen of X1 Carbon is this one. Can I upgrade the Ram and SSD etc. Your Video is very informative, it is very useful for IT students and IT professionals. Good work. Waiting to hear for your advice to go for an X1 Carbon or any suitable one.

Can't speak to the US price, that's likely to be the 4th Gen X1 Carbon. Ideally find the 6th gen Carbon or newer featuring the 8th gen processors.

Hello. I am about to buy a Thinkpad T14 with an intel i7 16gb and 512 ssd. I wonder if the ssd can be upgraded by a "Ssd M.2 2280 2tb Supertalent Fpi2tbmwr7 Pcie 3d Nvme". In the lenovo page said "up to 1Tb". Is this 1Tb limitation real? I wonder why 1Tb. I would thanks if anybody has an answer. Cheers.

Upto 2TB single sided is fine. 2TB not really available back then. 4TB+ tends to be double sided, see Reddit for that.

How is the heat on intel version compared to amd ? Suport for Linux ?
@GreenGreenStore3 жыл бұрын
AMD does slightly better in the thermal. Linux apparently is comparable if you swap an Intel wi-fi into the AMD powered unit. Otherwise the default realtek WiFi in the AMD version can take more time to get working.

Haha, appreciated. I'll still be at the reviews. Luke is a technician here at CruiseTech. You'll have guessed that we're a small refurbisher. 🤭 He's more practiced at doing these disassembly well (or in the T14 Gen 2's case, doing them correctly 😂). I used to do these at work, but far less now & the technicians are just more practiced these days. When the priority is to do it correctly, for the disassembly portions in the future - you might see more of Luke / Luke's hands. Best, Michael (owner of CruiseTech).
