Thinkpad T61 fan error problem fixed lenovo

I just wanna thank you for posting this video. I have recently acquired a T61, and I randomly get “Fan Error” when I boot the system. It goes away, but I noticed that the fan’s sound doesn’t seem right. Followed your tutorial, and the fan sounds about right! It might be caused by debris and dirt deeply lodged in the fan.

I suspect it has more to do with the need for adding lubricant than it is the dust, but yeah... good to clean that too.

Thanks for the video very helpful I am struggling to pull away the plastic that goes under the screen. Perhaps next time you could show that part in more detail :D

there are two long screws at corners of the bottom side you have to remote to get the front panel off.

I think that cleaning out the dust and gunk is the key to freeing up the fan. I believe that putting oil in there will cause it to collect dust and get gummed up again. It is designed to operate dry, is it not?

you should put no oil at the fan bearing, there will be a lot of dust collected within a months

use laptop cooling fan instead of fixing internal fan. save lots of work.

You did also replace the thermal paste right? Lol... won't last much longer if you don't replace that paste.

Mine too, lubed and tried with anoter fan same conector, both spins well but fan error still
