I was just looking at it in Best Buy today, and I must confess: I was impressed with the build quality! Historically, the Envy line was a cut below HP's Spectre line, but now, I'm not sure I can tell the difference! This thing is NICE! I would totally consider one!

I have the larger version with an OLED screen which is about 400 nits and it is a beauty! I also own an HP Elite x2 G8 (business machine) and I must say I really like the Envy. As you noted you do get a lot of business features including privacy screen with the Envy but as a business machine it is heavy, does not have a dedicated number pad, and has no cellular capability (which the Elite machines do have). Nonetheless, for its price it is a standout in business class machines. Also, as an STEM academic, this machine is a workhorse and will stand any college student in good stead for their studies. It is a much better build than the Lenovo Yoga 9i (which seems popular).

I just got the AMD R7 8840HS with OLED and I'm quite happy with it until my youtube algorith started showing broken Envy hinges :)

Idk if I’d worry abt it that much considering most of the stuff and yt is from old models and seemingly every single written review I’ve read about the updated 2024 model says the build quality is great. Hell it literally got 4.8 stars on BestBuy.

What's the model code for this, the only versions I can see with OLED are ones with Intels i7 Ultra 155U. AMD is only available with a 2k IPS screen that has terrible colour accuracy 😢

HP laptop hinges are very weak. I am big fan of HP laptops and i only bought their products for couple of decades. Couple of laptops have hinge issues which broke just after warranty period, 1 laptop had display issue. Bought i bought their products because of their design and premium look.

To my experience, this is one of the best hinges on a 2-in-1 device that I've used. I can say that Envy did a great job this year.

Mine just broke btw. The build of the hinge is still plastic. Brakes right after warranty expires. In my country it cost 400€ to repair. Not worth it after 2 years. The computer guy just told me it's better to save 400 to buy a new one
