When you're making the icons it looks like you're using GIMP's fuzzy select to delete the default grey background. Blender can actually output with transparent background. On the sidebar: Render Properties -> Film -> Transparent. You can even add your white outline in blender. Render Properties -> Freestyle -> Tick the box and select the desired line width. Then in View Layer Properties -> Freestyle you can set Edge Type to Silhouette and FreeStyle Color to white. Now you can generate your icons entirely in blender and skip needing to open them in GIMP.

Awesome start to this project! Your plan to focus on fundamental gameplay systems first really resonated with me - every week I tell myself that's what I'm doing, but I find it so difficult to stick to that sometimes. Excited to see how you tackle it!

Definitely feels like you're working on the important, fundamental systems. Tackling the diving system has been awesome to watch :)

I have been trying to do that as well with Velaptor. It is easy to be implementing a feature and then think, "well, its easy to do. I might as well add this extra thing right now." Then at the end I realize that I have more things added then what I originally planned for a planned release. 🙄

Hey @ThinMatrix, I spotted a equilinox picture (or maybe printed linen?) at 5:35 on your left wall. The community and I don't think about the city builder as failure, neither should you even if you leave the project behind forever. If you are eager to add your city builder to the wall as well, to remind yourself about the acomplishments you had within the project, something you can still be proud of including the community you managed to grow - I'd like to sponsor you such a picture in the same style. It sure as hell would fit below the equilinox project! Looking forward for your efforts as always, keep up the good work!

Hey ThinMatrix! Sad about the city builder game seeing as I was really excited about the progress and concept about that but this will be good for you so that's awesome too. I'm sure you have things in mind for where you want the game to go but just as an idea some games will have durability for tools. Either way could work because sometimes it is tedious and annoying to have to continually buy new tools but if you feel like it would help balance your game then it might be a good addition. Whatever you decide to do will be awesome - I love your work and what you've put out so I have full faith in your abilities. Anyway keep at it my guy we love you and everything you bring to the table!
@ThinMatrix
@ThinMatrix 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) I've been thinking quite a lot about durability and haven't been able to decide yet whether it would be good for the game. I guess I'll try it out when the game is a bit further and see if it helps to balance the game or if it's just annoying.

Wow. Love it so far, couple of suggestions: 1) the shovel should have durability, gives the player a reason to frequent the shop 2) crops should have a chance of rotting adds some variety and risk 3) if weather is implemented, it should affect growth rate and increase / decrease chances of rotting 4) if animals are implemented, fences should be added to the shop to give the player a way to protect crops

I think you've made a good decision. I'm a developer too (well not game developer but still) and i totally understand how hard and demotivating can be larger projects, especially when you're doing them just by yourself alone... Making something smaller is a good idea to get rid off the pressure. Also you could use some ideas from that small project in your City Builder later. For example you could add some micromanagement for factory buildings based on this farming game mechanics :) Keep up the good work!

If you're planning to add additional tools, here's an idea that popped into my head watching this: farming with the wrong tool damages the crops, farming with the right tool damages less, and upgrading the tool damages even less with each upgrade. This would add a lot of item variation without the need for many different crops and would also be a good incentive to invest in better tools. :3o
