Good stuff. I learned all I know about Plasti Dip from you. I've done ten cars in the last two years.

Great video man! one question that no one ever really seems to address on videos in reference to dipping a car is: How many gallons are required to dip a car? now before you answer, I know there are different size cars, from trucks to Fiats but in all of the videos I've seen where people are dipping entire cars, not just the rims or emblems excetera, they never tell you how many gallons it will take to dip a Honda Accord, or an Audi a5, or even a Ford F 250. is there a chart somewhere on plasti Dips website? inquiring minds want to know. Thanks man

just curious, ive been close to falling for some of the marketing tactics of commercial dip kit sellers, but your videos opened my mind to alot of possibilities of being able to successfully dip my car affordably. i was just curious, when it comes to thinning CLEAR plastidip, i noticed you use xylene, i was just a little unclear as to whether its still a 1:1 ratio? and is there anywhere i can buy clear full strength dip in gallons? what about glossifier? i know that matte clear and glossifier provide two very different looks, are there two methods that you may know of that will result in a more glossifier like end result, as opposed to a more matte clear like end result? any help you could offer on the matter would be greatly appreciated. im compiling a list of resources to make dipping my car a project i will start for myself on my birthday this year. thanks so much for your contributions and time.:)

Great vids, no nonsense, to the point. Great Stuff Maynard! And enjoyable! Cameraman is a tad annoying! :P Just kidding! Can you do a video about guns? DYC has a "specially designed" gun. Not sure if thats true. Just getting into dipping, Will just any HVLP gun work? BTW...FYI...live in Italy, but have access to UK parts and material. PS - Facebook blows! It really does! :)

Hey bud, just a quick question. I know you use unthinned dip to save on a lot of cost, but when you do people's cars why don't you use RDS/PDS? because it's been shown that selfthinned dip doesn't last as long and can be hard to peel after time, etc. I'm just curious! Thanks. :)

There are a lot of people who have come to my channel about the same thing. Some were very negative and very rude in which they were deleted and ignored. But, you were very polite and factual in your question, so I thank you for your question and your tact, and will be more than happy to answer this for you. There are a few reasons: First, there are places that can not get their hands on RDS/PDS. American distributors can only ship to I think 45ish states, and shipping overseas is out of the question(at this time.) I do these demonstrations for the rest of the world who do not have access distributors who sell those products. When RDS/PDS is available to a person, it is easy to forget about the rest of the world who want to join the dip community, but need information on how to do it. Second, Plasti Dip itself was never intended for permanent use. So it depends on how long a person wants it on their car to make the decision on a product. I explain to everyone who comes to me, the pros and cons, and life expectancy of each. I leave it up to them to chose which product they want to use. They are fully aware they need to remove it before it becomes fatigued and weathered. I have had a very few say they wanted the dip to be on their car for a long time in which I recommended they use RDS. But, in the end they opted to go self thinned. A lot of people do videos of their own cars over and over, but 90% of the cars I do, do not belong to me. So, that decision is not mine to make. Keep in mind, if dip is to dried to peel there is always dip dissolver that makes it a snap to remove. The process is pretty painless. I would have no problems dipping cars with RDS/PDS, but it is up to the owner to make that decision. And last but not least, at the end of each video I say "Don't be a follower, do it yourself." This applies to a large majority of people who have me dip their cars too. Most of the time, they don't just go sit in a waiting room and make me do all the work. They are people who want to get involved. They want to be part of the process of thinning, tinting, taping, and spraying. They want to get their hands dirty and be part of the whole process from start to finish. For most of the people who come to me it's is not just about buying dip and spraying it. They want to be fully involved. So you see, there are several reasons why I use Full Strength. But understand, I have nothing against RDS/PDS. It is a great product. I have always seen the whole dip community as one family. This may be the path I have chosen, but I have much respect to all dippers no matter the product they use. I hope in some way this has answered your question, and feel free to drop me a line any time if you have any more.

If you are using black or gray no, but if you are using a color then I would add 2 oz of pigment per un-thinned gallon.

Love your videos , I send every person wanting to learn how to dip here, anyway my question is have you ever dipped door jams and the inside of trunk when you fully dip your cars? I am planning to dip my pearl white car satin black and want to dip the door jams and trunk etc, because I dont want it looking like a oreo when I open the door , Thanks :)

I have never done these spots because dip is usually a short term thing. It is just more to peel, and you run the risk of the seal possible damaging the dip. Plus if you want to do this just be sure to seal off your car so fumes and over spray don't get into the car.

Would it be possible to do a video or maybe even just give some tips on fixing tears or deep scratches on a vehicle that's been dipped? Some a-hole hit my door with a grocery cart and it left a tear right in the middle. Thanks man. love the work.

yea, i kinda figured that might be the case. it's what I ended up doing. I appreciate the reply. Id like to do a matte white now. But there seems to be conflicting ideas on doing this. Some say do a gray base coat first. But I've also heard that the white plasti-dip has recently changed and is now not as thin so the grey isnt necessary. Any experience with this. Or even just any tips you might have I'd really appreciate. My cars base color is a gloss black. Unless I missed it, I dont think you have any videos about going from black to white. Much appreciated.

How do you peel this stuff after a few months of weathering? you said it doesn't feel as rubbery as pds so how does it peel?
@iamthepuzzleman
@iamthepuzzleman 9 жыл бұрын
kotu100 Self thinned plasti dip lasts 6-9 months. It is perfect for short term dippers. For longer use I use un-thinned plasti dip with UV stabilizer. According to the materials data sheet "FROM PLASTI DIP" the life span is much much longer.

iamthepuzzleman I've gotta say, I have a big problem with that timeline. After just 4 months i'm having big issues peeling. Can you explain why the self thinned dip dries out under the sun and the plasti dip rubber dip spray doesnt? The parts of my car that were covered by moldings and the lip kit peeled perfectly fine despite being thin in some spots. However once i got to the part that was exposed to the sun it would tear instantly. Didn't have any of these issues with the RDS. If the self thinned stuff works for you with what you're doing then more power to you. Saying that its the same as RDS, well that's just a lie or you don't know any better. If i can save just 1 person from going through what I am i'll be happy. To anyone else that read this far, please just use rubber dip spray or any other liquid rubber automotive refinishes. Don't cheap out or you may regret it.

You know, I have never actually paid attention to how many coats I get out of a gallon. I have always dumped both gallons of dip, with both gallons of thinner into a 5 gallon bucket, and spray until I am finished.

Great videos. Adding the pigment into this mix is required, correct? If you just use thinned plasti-dip only, it will not cover as well as plastidip S from DYC? Thanks for sharing this information. I am new to this but I really like the ideas.

If you are using black or gray no. It does give it more of a satin look, but when using colors "yes" you should add 2oz of pigment per un-thinned gallon.
