Thio free perm demo with flexi rods (wavy perm)

This is a demo on how perming with a thio free perm and the results, natural looking waves that are soft and not frizzy. Before anyone comments that I did not wrap coton aorund the head, I know, I did not have any on hand so I did it without it. Manaquin hair is an odd type of hair so I processed the perm for the full time.

I wonder why many don't use these rods I have asked numerous times to different hair salons and I'm told they strictly use perm rods. I don't want a perm like that hahaa. I put my hair up in a high ponytail and then I curl my ponytail hair with six hot sticks. You know the kind from the '80s I guess. Yep, 80s and I take those curlers out and take your ponytail out. And I like the curl that my hair gets that way so that was wondering if I could turn my hair like that with just the six rods put my hair up in a ponytail use a six broads I use and then put the perm solution and would I get the same effect? Tired of having to use the hot sticks everyday and moreso with the humidity in Florida, the girl doesn't last all day long

Why thank you :)!!! Merry Christmas btw!!! Modern perms are so much fun! The cool thing is, you can actually refresh hair color and perm at the same time, either by putting a liquid demi in the neutralizer since neutralizer is hydrogen peroxide or use it right after.

That is the most amazing perm result i ve ever seen. The way you placed the different size rods is making so much sense to me as oppose to all the other demonstrations i ve seen on youtube. Perfect for volume and structure. I want to do this at home and i think what i would do differently is not curl up the tips of the hair just like i dont curl my tips while using curling iron. Sandra Di thank you! ☺️ you can also try even larger rods and flexi reds for more volume and more wave. I think this method would help out a lot to get the result you want. The key is to make sure you are using the correct perm. Other perms I love are the beach wave from pravanna or the paul Mitchell perms because their perms are thio and ammonia free. Thio free perms at the very least are a must for this look because they don’t swell the hair like other perms and use an ammonia acid as the reducer agent so the hair is better conditioned. If you try this and notice any curled ends try using a blow dryer to smooth them. If you want looser waves than try the largest perm rods and flexi rods

Great question! Not always! Exothermic perm is used for healthy resistant hair that does not take a perm well. The heat allows the cuticle to open up wider and allow the solution in deep

I want a perm like this one soooo bad!! I have bleached/colored baby fine hair. I've asked 2 stylists about giving me a beach wave perm and neither one said they would do it. Would the thio-free wave be safe for my hair type?

Many stylists get nervous because they don’t have the training or experience in this area. Bleached hair can be permed with thio free but it usually takes in 2-3 min because of the porosity. I protein treatment bleached hair before a perm. I would use either this one or another good one is true cystem. True cystem is a thio free true acid wave so you need a heated dryer.

Hey Hey.... So I know you uploaded this video 2 years ago & the chances of getting a reply could be slim. Figured I'd try either way.. Since You do a great job at going into details and teaching us what you know. I feel like I can trust your knowledge. I wanted to ask you 2 questions. #1 Being- Should I buy and alkaline or acid perm? I have alot of seriously straight hair. I can't get a curl to hold longer than a day without some serious product. I'd consider my hair virgin hair as I haven't colored (highlights) in 10-12 years. I dont blowdry, use curling irons... well really any hot tools but maybe once or twice a year. Then #2 - Flexi rods or Traditional perm rods? I want curls like your doll head above now has. I wouldn't mind curls a tad bit tighter or defined either. Ok so actually 3 questions for you, if you dont mind. #3 Being what size rods did you use. I'm not sure if every brand follows the same color and size guide. So if you do see this.. have the time & don't mind getting back to me, I'd be so so appreciative.

No worries! I’m getting in the habit of trying to respond in the afternoon! I’m always around, so these are excellent questions! It sounds like your hair is healthy and resistant! One perm that may work well for you is a thio free perm. Because there is no color on your hair you can use an alkaline perm like Paul Mitchell alkaline wave! It’s a great perm and the curls feel great! So the rod choice is up to you! You can do both or use smaller flexi rods. Flexirods give more a modern curl and can be tight medium or large. The ones I used in the video were 7/8in purple flexi rods from salon care and the black ones were salon care 1 1/8in

Also every brand is different with rollers so make sure to always check the size! It stinks because there is no universal color system so one brands black can be large. For example salon cares black is 1 1/8in and from Diane their rods that are black are 1 1/4in

Oh I did! I left the neutralizer in for 5min and took them out to rinse. You can rinse on the rods if you want a stronger curl.

Wondering the same. I think they look like 1 1/4. It really sucks to not be able to find something that shows what each diameter turns out like on a perm. My dad wants his hair permed for body and I'm worried I'll either go too big and get no result or that he'll look like some horrible 80's glam rocker.

Great question! If a perm is done correctly it should last at least 3 months and for some people they last much longer.

Miss Scarecrow well said! I agree. In some cases I’ve even had clients have their hair change after a pregnancy too. One of my friends now has hair like that we tried even using a gentle thio smoother and it only gently relaxed the curl. I do wanna try Malibu c to prep the hair before the service.

Clarice Franklin the perm used was zotos texture efx. It’s the one for colored hair. It’s a thio free perm so if you can get that specific brand any thio free perm is super similar.
