My read of the situation is that the "vendor" referred to by MemoryC support is probably whatever smuggler got them access to the grey market boards. Anyway, MEMORYC replaced the kit under the G-Skill warranty without any issues. In this day and age, one never really knows the originating vendor. I've come across multiple domain issues myself and it's a real pain because in making contact, everyone shrugs their should and says nothing to do with me, you need to contact companies where you bought it for help. The more expensive a motherboard is (= more complex and more components on it), the more likely it is to fail or give you issues it seems. That and Asus boards in general seem to be less reliable than the regular mid range and low end boards from other manufacturers.

Another thing: spent some time researching buying a complex device. Looked on various places, including Amazon, with various reviews. A few complained they received previously unpacked item - obviously a return. One device model I was after was marked on the supplier website as no longer available (not produced anymore). The last one of that kind was on Amazon, I couldn't find it anywhere else. I gave it a miss. Next day it was gone. I could almost bet it was one of those returned ones. Even if it wasn't, it probably won't have many spare parts available if it broke within warranty. I think I saved myself quite some hassle.

ASUS did something similar to me years ago, early 2000’s. I bought the top model in the line up at the time. A capacitor blew on the board while under warranty, 2nd or 3rd year of ownership. RMA it, after 3 weeks I contacted them for an update (they messed up and said they will ship out a replacement immediately). The new board I received was from the same line up but was the model below the board I had that was $80 cheaper.

3:32-3:42 For me it’s stranger that Thio found that weird - in my country (I live in the EU) that’s how the majority of brands’ support departments works: they will only give support and assistance for devices bought locally in the country….even devices purchased from sellers in other European Union member countries are (almost always) not eligible for support.

I used to build my computers by dealing directly with the manufacturers, but now I only buy fully assembled computers from local computer stores. Yes, it's a bit more expensive, but I'm supporting the local economy and if there is warranty problems, they're solved by them, which saves me a lot of hassle. Nevertheless, I've never experienced the problem of delays in warranty processes as Thio has, which is very unfortunate, I must say.

"Out of region" is also a very annoying thing, why a company can resign their responsibility for their product because the motherboard they produced is residing now in a different region? People move around, what if you buy a motherboard in Germany and then move to US? Do you have to go to Germany to have it fixed? I can understand them charging shipping but they should still replace it.

The one time anything similar to this happened to me - a bricked ASUS mobo, but not this one and not with this issue to be clear - I tried everything too and ultimately got it to factory reset by taking out the button battery and then jumping the power pins to start it. Not sure why, but that actually managed to do the factory reset that I needed to ultimately fix the machine. It wasn't on your list of things you tried, and you very likely did, but just in case it helps someone else thought I'd leave a note.

I bought a refurbished PC from a Newegg retailer three years ago. I emailed them a few times to be certain that I'd get what I wanted and to confirm various specs. I didn't get everything advertised, but after another round of emails they sent a working replacement for a dead part. The CPU isn't exactly as advertised, but it's sufficient, so I didn't insist they replace it. Typically I don't deal with 3rd party vendors, but in this instance I came close enough to getting my expectations met by asking questions first and then telling the vendor what was wrong after it was received. If I hadn't gotten a prompt replacement I would've insisted on getting a refund for the entire PC. Perhaps using this method can help to prevent problems (such as the one Joe had) if the right questions are asked before buying. Addendum: I've since learned that I might have gotten a comparable PC on ebay for less, but it's somewhat more hit or miss. However, I'm keeping my ears pealed for positive testimonials from ebay customers who've gotten decent hardware at decent prices.

I had a similar experience, with the Razer Blackwidow V3 Mini Hyperspeed, in June of 2023 Razer published a firmware update that made the keys of the keyboard double or even triple register upon press, and it occurred almost constantly. A few weeks after, in July, they published an update to address the issue, but it didn't address it entirely (made it less severe). I contacted customer support, and was constantly redirected to the firmware download page (which wasn't helpful). And I couldn't make a warranty claim because I modified the keyboard (lubricated the switches), despite doing it more than half a year before the issue began. I tried finding the firmware version that my keyboard shipped with (which worked fine) on Razer's website, and couldn't find anything.

I had a similar experience with an Australian company named GameDude. First and last time I ever used them. Bought components for new PC build, ended up around $1500 out of pocket after getting some faulty parts which they refused to replace under warranty despite being only a few days old. They changed their story multiple times and tried to hold the parts which were working to ransom to get me to drop the case. Scumbags.

I'm not sure where the blame lies yet. It took me "only" 3 months to get a replacement like-for-like ASUS motherboard in the UK but they were clearer in their testing and when it went back to ASUS. MemoryC's support may have been referring to ASUS as the "supplier", hence the serial number already being processed under repair. We often can't go to manufacturer directly under warranty. The retailer often needs to take care of that process on our behalf.
@Vichion7 ай бұрын
I would recommend reaching out to Asus's executive customer support team to discuss this matter. Out-of-region retailing is a significant concern, and I believe you will find a cooperative and helpful response if you escalate the issue to the appropriate level.

Gigabyte is one of my trusted reliable companies. Them and NZXT have always gone beyond what I've requested of them. I'd be interested in what went wrong with them for you. EVGA that everyone fanboys about has been the bain of my existence. They use cheap proprietary parts on their boards to stop people from repairing them. $22US + 40 shipping from AU for a replacement HDMI port for an EVGA graphics card is absurd. I have over a dozen EVGA cards in my bin that are unrepairable because of EVGA manufacturing obsolescence.

Memoryc is relatively reputable, have used them for multiple years without any issues. They can often offer more competitive prices by having local partners in multiple countries. Sadly that sometimes come back to bite the user when the company locks regions as Asus does. Asus has been quite scurvy with RMA's and had a recent experience with them that allows me to make a not so wild guess: memory.c cannot make the RMA as assus will only accept it from you (what cannot be done due to the region lock) or from the retailer (VIP). In addition to that asus praxis in regards repair is to receive the motherboard, see if it can be repaired but preferentially instead of repairing it there and then they will send a replacement from their refurbished motherboard stockpile of the same model , but in this case I doubt they had one in stock . As such they offered a "available equivalent replacement " the seller accepted and asus either sent the closest high grade z690 they had available or messed up, the seller didnt; even check what he received and then either sent it to you directly or sent the stuff to memoryc that then sent the stuff to you. Will be curious to see any update or explanation but chances are i am not that far from what took place.
