Thanks for this great video. I have repaired clocks for 40 years as a “hobby”. (Stopped doing it 13 years ago.) I collected clocks and had a mentor who taught me and pushed me to get my license as a “ Certified Horologist” as was needed in Michigan at the time. I thoroughly enjoy watching you and comparing techniques. Most of which, I am delighted, are the same. I taught elementary school for 35 years. Working on a clock when I got home was great therapy: instant reward for a job well done, and the satisfaction of turning something non-working into working. I also enjoyed the looks and feelings of pleasure seeing their treasured clock working as it should. Thank you so much for taking part in The Repair Shop. Watching it is a very rewarding experience.

It’s great to see that someone is still carrying on with the great work that clock & watch smiths do, my Grandfather worked at it from the time he left school until he retired in his eighties, he was in such huge demand he even had his own workshop at home, there was a strong smell of tricolytharine in the workshop as he used it in his own cleaning machine. He was responsible for many years for winding the clock in our Cathedral in Chelmsford Essex, back then health & safety meant he didn’t need anyone help him climb the clock tower, he had many very valuable clocks & watches in his care, Omega being one of the many he loved to work on, in later life he concentrated on clock repair as the parts were easily handled by a man with old age effecting his movement. If he were alive today he would be thrilled to see you working as a watch smith on our TV screens, keep up your wonderful work Steve

Hi Steve, lovely workmanship, based of course on years of experience, gained by staying calm in the face of often challenging issues to be found as you well know in all things mechanical!? Does it not make you wonder, how did they do your work,so well too, hundreds of years ago, with hardly any materials and tools so freely available today?! I’m sure it crosses your mind, as it does mine so often!? I’m a time served toolmaker of 73 summers and fully understand and appreciate your(and your dear sisters) brilliant efforts! Thank you both!

Thoroughly enjoy seeing you and Sue on the Repair Shop. If you should ever be coming to Spain, I have a chiming clock that was a wedding present to my grandparents on 31st January 1917. It was a great reassurance to me during WWII because if I woke up it was pitch dark (black out) and I heard the clock chime (every quarter) I knew everything was OK. There is also the clock on the old village school, with carillon, needs fixing.

Thankyou so much, boy you are such an interesting man to watch and listen to and the way you restore those movements back to what they were and I can relate to what you are saying about the frustrations some customers can create when they have a little fiddle trying to make adjustments and make a confusing mess of it all and are reluctant to confess anything anyway thanks once again for a most enjoyable video.Jim from AUSTRALIA.

Great video, love the Repair shop. I have nearly 30 Clocks dating from a circa 1780 Longcase to my Aunt and Uncle's Wedding present in 1951. I've always been fascinated by the work that the Clock repairers do. An 18th century Bracket Clock that you had worked on, I think it was about 1979 went through Canterbury Auctions the other year. Looking forward to seeing some more videos.

The talent that you and your family have is amazing Steve. Keep on clocking n rocking with your grime unblocking and even Suzie is socking it to me too! A timeless classic, you are a very important cog in the bigger picture. Do you listen to 'Just a minute' on Radio 4 by any chance? It is always worth a second listen. Let's face it, you are such a handyman with your hands fixing other hands. Please post more videos, of the footage you have taken of the more important clock repairs that you have done. I really want to get my teeth into the workings and repairs of old clocks. I have owned a few beautiful antique ones myself. It broke my heart when I sold them. Please post more Steve, this is not a wind-up.

About 2 years ago ,I started working on watches and love doing it. I have one watch that I would like to work on. But I think it is out my hands. It is Omega 344. It was my son watch. He was out in the water with it on. Well I got wet. One day I hope to fix it. I have been putting Batteries and cleaning them and Watchbands. I thank what you do is great. People are starting to bring me there watches. I let them know that I'M New at it. They see I care about there watches and say too me do it.. So I do my best for them.

This job would drive me nuts. If I trained myself to enjoy fixing the clocks, and then the customers screwed around with it and I had to fix it again, that would drive me nuts. If I didn't care about whether they worked or not, the tediousness would drive me nuts. So kudos to this guy for what he does.
