I was also over all the manipulatives and the teacher guide for math with confidence but continued level K because it worked so well with my daughter. I was determined to find something else, I landed on Apologia level1, but I didn’t like how it taught and the activities seemed to take too long. So now we are back to math with confidence but first grade. I joined their fb group and asked other moms how to modify it to make it easier for me, and the tips were a game changer. They were get rid of index cards and or dice, use a Spinner app, highlight the script, materials and workbook pages, put all manipulatives in a caddy, and gameboards in a presentation book report booklet and use dry erase marker when possible and now I absolutely love it. I feel like it’s faster and it’s working for my girl. Just mentioning in case it helps someone else.

Love your update! Curiosity chronicles didn’t work for us but I totally think the audio book narratives are the best out there!

I haven’t tried the audio out! That’s good to know, thank you!

We finished Curiosity Chronicles Ancient Times and it was so much fun. I love how much you can customize this curriculum. As far as the pronunciation it is in the instruction manual before each lesson. I wish it was in the textbook book too as well. ❤❤❤

Ooooo life saver with the pronunciation tip ha thanks!

Christian light education is another really great curriculum. There is a lot of review, but I tend to cross some out if I think my kids are retaining it really well. I use it for math, reading, and language arts for most of my kids. I also use it for history for my older kids. It is extremely thorough and right to the point. The only thing I add is spelling because I feel like it is not fantastic in that area for my younger kids. 😊

I want to love Apologia Science, but just never have. One year we got Astronomy with the kit and I quickly realized it was a no go. We have also tried the chemistry with Actions and Reactions from guest hollow. Loved Guest Hollow but didn’t love the Apologia spine.

Hey, have you considered Horizons Math? I've only done level 1 so far, but it's been fantastic. My kids did Abeka for K. There was nothing wrong with Abeka, I just wanted to try something different.

We tried this for kindergarten and I didn’t know much back then so I wasn’t sure how you teach the lesson! But it seemed a bit advanced for my kiddo at the time.

Girl you Need to try Soaring with Spelling by JacKris! I'm 99% sure you won't regret it! The lessons literally take 5 minutes each day and there's no phonics work or anything just straight spelling work. Sometimes its matching the words with their definitions, wordsearches, unscrambling the words, etc. We started using the whole set (spelling, writing and grammar) a year and a half ago and I haven't found anything that compares yet.

We LOVE Apologia Math. I think it's perfect for our family. We came from TGATB which I really did not like! We had to do Grade 2 Math for the 1st few months of 3rd Grade to fill in the gaps of what was missed when using TGATB.

You and Davene may be influencing me :) She just posted a video yesterday of Winning with Writing. I used Soaring with Spelling for my oldest Years ago and completely forgot about that company until lately. I may end up trying their spelling with my middle and their writing with her too.

I have actually been wondering about the spelling too! I might give it a go next year but I have to see! So far winning with writing has been a Godsend!

I use Apologia's textbooks to add in more info and experiments to the TGTB science units, which are too easy for my kid.

I'm with you on the Math woes! Have you looked at Math Mammoth for next year? If your daughter understands the way they teach and likes the format, it might be an option. It's more independent, plus there are KZbin videos if she needs more help on specific topics. It moves too fast for my daughter, and for some reason Christian Light is working for her. My son uses The Good and the Beautiful because he picks up math concepts quickly but his attention span is short, so the variety of TGTB holds his interest.

I feel you so much with Math with confidence. We were only doing level K in it. I hated trying to figure out what I needed to say and then gather all the things I needed and at least in that level the hands on stuff was super boring and not fun. So many have raved about it and it wasn’t necessarily bad but I didn’t love it.
