My father lived on a sailboat in Marina Del Rey, in between his job with Fed-Ex.. He was always on the road and found comfort on that Sailboat... I lost him in 2008, so I went out there to the City of Angels... in the land of a billion lights.. He loved it there... it was my first time in L.A... Stayed on his boat for 4 nights that I was there, That's where I felt comfort.... He wanted his ashes spread right there in the breakwater, and, that's just exactly what I did... The fireworks at the end of this beautiful song, reminded me of the celebration of his life, the big party on the dock... I was amazed at how many friends he had out there..and I like to think it was all for him...

Jared, first of all, congratulations on your Oscar tonight ! Excellent work, enormous accomplishment! Now, about your video for 'City Of Angels' w/ your band '30 seconds to Mars'. I'm trying so hard, right now to come up w/ other examples,I know there are more, but the the only one that comes to mind is 'Fury in the Slaughterhouse' As band names that SEEM to promise one thing & then deliver something else entirely. As with 'FURY' I thought '30 Sec' would be VERY CUTTING EDGE, hard and quirky, and subversive! But, on those accounts, and numerous others, disappointment prevails. I understand , as an actor you're going for mainstream. But I thought, and was possibly wrong, that you were trying to have some gritty, grungey, underground, street level cred. With the music. If I was wrong you have my apologies! Again, Congratulations!

This song makes me feel like living in L.A. need not always be such a nightmare. I'm trying to envision that magical place full of hope and dreams he's singing about, sometimes I can see it, but it's like it's always from behind a glass box. Then again, he is a rockstar...L.A. loves ppl with wealth and fame. I'm sure the city each of us experience from day to day is completely different, eventhough we may walk down the same streets from time to time. Hollywood/LA aren't as glamorous as people make it out to be. If you ever been there or listen to songs or interview of the band Hollywood Undead. It's not the most glamorous place. people getting shot and killed everywhere; everyday and people ending up with broken dreams thinking they will instantly become famous. It's actually really sad, depressing and tor up. Only good part is looking up from the hills and seeing the lights.... only reason why I go there.

tucker1012 It is I guess.... but I lived and visit LA many times in my life. Lets just say I had my fair share of wounds and close calls with death. I lived in many other places. Not dis-ing LA or anything but it's one of the worst places I have lived. It's really sad though many places Like NY, LA and Miami people try to get famous in those areas and fail and end up.... in bad places lets just say. What people hear about anywhere most of the time is just a bunch of stereotypes and so is this song but it's a good song though. Just saying. Also in simplest form it is like that everywhere but LA is one of the worst along with a few other places.
