This song is based off of Robert A. Heinlein's 1961 science fiction novel "Stranger in a Strange Land". It's about a dude named Valentine Michael Smith who was born on a spaceship and when the ship crashed was raised by Martians until he was found by humans and taken back to earth. The story is about his experience of learning on earth and love and all of it. It's great I'm almost finished it.

The lyrics are controversial yet still make up a fascinating song. I am lucky to have attended a live Thirty Seconds to Mars concert in the 2011 timeframe in Northern Virginia and the band sounds just as good live.
