I really enjoy the theory and explanations you provide. We are looking at having the get away space as a self contained sea container with an open breezeway to a 2 bedroom 1 bath room home and would like to use the shed roof over the entire project

I find it facinating to hear about things like this. I've just found your channel and it's opened my eyes to a whole new line of thinking about things. This is no different. Thinking about how this sort of lay out works (I didn't even know it was called dogtrot) and why it would be employed makes a lot of sense and makes me think about the architecture I've seen in my past. Thanks for the video's and keep inspiring us to make things! Cheers

Starting to absorb the style and understand components of structure as you explain them..informative, instructive. Well appreciated, cheers!

This is an informative video. I love the explanation of how the ends function as private spaces with the 'transition zones' in between making for a house that feels much larger than it is. Getting back to basic shelter design is also very exciting! #DogTrot

How long/wide is this building? I have a plot and this design looks really interesting but would need to see if it would fit...

I wonder if one family lived in one side and another family lived in the other side (such as happens in a duplex), if it still qualifies as one house for legal purposes? Many areas have minimum square footage laws that are simply too big for most people and I am looking for ways around it. That space between the two halves would certainly make this type of building a bit more quiet and even safe than living in a duplex.

if the minimum sq ft allowed is 900 sq ft, two 450 sq ft boxes could be build with one roof or 3 boxes (one on top covering the breezeway or dogtrot porch area) of 300 sq ft each. Each could still have their private decks and even backyard space if there was money enough for that. Tiny homes are hard to live in legally and the communities for them often look like mobile home parks to me.

Could you use this concept for an addition to a small house?

Would I be able to hire you to take a look at our dogtrot design to make sure airflow will work? I have a draft person who drew it up but she doesn’t seem to understand the concept for airflow.

It's pretty frustrating that your elevation that you review is flipped on the vertical axis with respect to the plan. That small detail aside I really enjoyed this thorough breakdown of the design

Great to have this logic and order to work from. I assume the long sides of the building are facing North/South where site appropriate? Nice way to have less conditioned square footage while maintaining plenty of comfortable and livable indoor-outdoor space.

Aware Architect indeed, the long flanks face north / south - which, in the southeast also takes advantage of the prevailing wind patterns. Thanks for watching...
