sprinters are generally more torso dominant. A proximal weight distribution. I also totally agree that focusing too much on muscle mass is not good for sprinting. Most top atheltes have good muscle building genetics. especially black sprinters.

It's pretty crazy because I feel like I'm at the point in my career where I don't really need to lift like I did in my early 20s. Now that I'm in my late 20s, I shifted to doing more resisted sprinting, weighted jumps, resisted plyos, throws, and the occasional light Olympic lift. Pool work has also been a huge plus. I feel once you've been in the weight room for 3 to 4 years, it'll give you diminishing returns on the track. Long story short, I shifted to doing more light power training and plyos and less strength training. I believe you have to shift your training as you age in this sport.

One thing I noticed about Aikines is that his upper body is much bigger than the size of his lower body. His lower body looks similar to Bolt's. Do you think he is still fast because he did not gain weight in his lower body?

Justjumari, I am new to this sprinting stuff and to your channel (just a few months) I am currently training with weights (secondary training), like I'm doing weighted knee drive (10 lbs) standing for hip flexors, heavy pull ups for upper body (40 lbs 6-5 reps), weighted push ups, and weighted lunges and jump squat. Any feedback?

For the case of Harry Aikines, I have seen many of his videos where he does a lot of plyometrics. It is a bit hard to say he lacks power to weight ratio, Cz I have seen his vertical jumps. He definitely has 40+ inch vertical. Do you think he is lacking mainly horizontal power?

I don't think so , i think there is video that he broad jump over 11ft
@justjumari
@justjumari Жыл бұрын
yea your definitely right i didn’t explain it well. but it’s a hard case for sure, horizontal power is one huge case, the actual like scientific term is horizontal impulse , and looking back at is he is probably missing out on alot of top end speed, which is your ability to resisted deceleration in the last 30-40m. with all the mass on his body i could see that being a huge issue

i will say in this video i was chatting a bit and was off a lot of caffeine so idk if i got my point across correctly. i do believe athletes within first 1-3 years of training can see great benefits from muscle and strength gains, just we are seeing time and time again with new training that velocity based work is producing the best results, and a lot of those athletes are very slim. once you hit a certain strength to bodyweight ratio you will start to get negative feedback from pushing strength too far, and that’s where i believe people like harry aikines is falling into currently. sorry!

a good place to start is bodyweight of course but you need very foundational movements one squat, one hinge, one horizontal push, one vertical push, one horiztonal pull, one vertical pull. do 3x6-10 for all of these e exercises to start off. if you don’t now what those mean, you can google them and it’ll make sense then just fill in what i said
