That Lezak 46.06 is still so insane, IMO the best relay leg ever. He brings the entire relay team's average down by almost 4 tenths of a second.

Alexy came last in the Olympic 100m final and was completely bitter and disrespectful to the new world record holder Pan Zhanle.

Not necessarily a Dressel fan, but when you're the defending champion, you should get some special consideration. I'm not familiar with the Olympic rules, but if it's not an international restriction that all countries can only enter 2 athletes, then the US should consider adding a 3rd spot for defending champs, as long as they make the qualifying time. Leaving Dressel out, especially when he's this close makes no sense to me.
@JeffBraun-e3s5 ай бұрын
The format is the format. That is what makes the Trials so special...and heartbreaking. Dressel is an absolute stud and one of the best sprinters in history, but he was beaten by two faster guys last night. This is not his best individual event. He will win the 50 and likely the 100 fly.

That's a weird take. Dressel had a great prelims swim. Alexey looked like a monster, but there was nothing indicating Dressel couldn't drop 0.5 and make it. Sadly Dressel is never at his fastest at trials. I truly believe Dressel is still the fastest swimmer at the Olympics, he just needs that second taper.

This video was made early enough in 2024 Trials to look a little bleak for Caeleb Dressel. In addition to swimming the 4x100 relay, Caeleb will individually defended his 2020 gold medals in the 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly.

Relay splits are faster correct? Don't you jump as there coming into the wall? Your in mid air while there touching the wall, it's a FS if your jumping over your teammate and hit the water before they touch the wall?
@TheSwimScribe5 ай бұрын
Relay splits are typically faster yes. But you can't be fully in the air before your teammate touches the wall, at least part of your body has to be touching the blocks even if its just your big toe. Meets at any higher level will have pads on the blocks to detect false starts. The general rule is to subtract about .5 per relay start, if you're doing fast starts your reaction time should be about .1 or lower compared to about .6-.5 for a flat start.
