Channe Gowda moved to Bengaluru from his native place, Kunigal 10 years ago to eke out a living and supplement his family’s marginal farming income. He tried his hand at many a job and trade, barely managing to make ends meet. A couple of years ago, he set up a food cart in Banashankari, South Bengaluru on the back of non vegetarian recipes gleaned from his well wishers. This too met with limited success, it was at this point that he introduced a thatte keeping in mind the clientele in the area. And that was when things changed. His soft and spongy 15 rupee thatte idli served with butter and two delicious chutneys caught the attention of locals and demand grew to an extent that he gave up the non veg menu to only focus on the idli, vade and a single rice preparation. Unable to cope with the stream of customers, Channe Gowda eventually moved operations to a house in the area, from where he continues to serve hundreds of his now famous Kunigal thatte idli each day.
From a street cart that would barely support him, he now provides livelihood to a team of fifteen! I set out this evening to meet this hard-working gent, and in the course of doing so, not only tasted his satisfying idlis, but also stumbled upon a flavourful tomato rice that he makes to an aromatic biryani recipe.

​@@soulcurry_inwith out using soda in idly and dosa batter that's doesn't tastes good. They just add very little for the batter entire South India who prepare dosa and idly batter soda is the mandatory ingredient for fermentation

@@SrideviRanga No I do not use soda in idly or dosa nor do they do so in South India. My family does not use and our dosas taste fabulous. It ferments even without soda. :)))

Good afternoon dear Kripal - I was awaiting this Vlog as many of your viewers guessed the answer to your query on the place and the dish across your SM handles . The philosophy of Mr Gowda is good ; limited menu but pack a punch in those limited items . The chutney at its preparatory stage itself looks appealing 👌👌 His story is truly interesting and inspiring 👍 I have never seen Tomato Rice being prepared in such a grand manner 👌👌 Good patron giving excellent feedback 💯💯💯 Quite reasonably priced . I still remember the first time I had at this place(may be Jan 2021) . It was still in a small shop along with the push cart, just next to their current location. Stopped by this eatery when I was heading back home on a Saturday night after a long tiring day at office. Managed to get the last batch of idlis for the day. There was crowd coming in but their stock for the day was over. That first bite of the bisi bisi idli with benne and 2 chutneys totally transported me to a different world altogether. Had 2 idlis and uddina vade. Though vade was just okayish, the taste of that bisi bisi idli will stay with me forever. I did not get sleep easily that day. I was surprised by what 2 bisi bisi Thatte idlis can do. Later when I visited for the second time, I tried tomato rice with masal vade and kayi chutney. Loved it. Have been visiting once or twice a month since then. Though I do not get the same feel as the first time, I totally savour the food there. Kripal Sir, thete are few channels I watch looking only for recipes and not interested in reviews. If it is just review I easily get bored and skip/quit the video. Yours is the only channel I do not get bored even after many watch. Your English, Quality of editing, Hint of recipe. I am very jealous of your appetite on a lighter note 😅😂.

Dear Kripal Amanna, You have contributed a lot to inform your viewers about South Indian Food, which is very healthy. Mavalli Tiffin Rooms , used to market ready made packets of Upma & Batter for immediate preparation at home after adding boiling water to the contents costing very reasonable price which was highly welcomed by home based consumers. Are those small packets for home consumption, which are cheaper & better than the McDonald's still available in the market. Hopefully you initiate the marketing of the most healthy food for India, especially amongst the youngsters of India. Foreigners appreciate the taste of Upma, Idli & Dosa. Kripalji you definitely give the push for MTR variety of our Food. GOD BLESS YOU.

Discourage Teflon coated idly plates

Why?, Teflon is a very inert material it doesn't react to anything, please don't pay head to the people in internet telling teflon causes cancer. Previously there used to be another component PFOA used to be added to the non -stick coating, which was toxic and it has been banned from the last 10 years so any new teflon coated vessels are safe to use and easy to clean a boon to the kitchen. The only time teflon becomes dangerous is when it is heated to 300°C, water boils at 100°C so most cooking is won't even cross the 100°C mark

I don't understand why the grooming standards and hygiene standards of people in these eateries are so low!!. When you are in the food business, your hygiene and grooming should be equivalent to or more than that of people in the healthcare/Medical industry. It does not cost a fortune to keep our hair short, Keep our nails trimmed & cheeks well shaved or well kept or to wear clean clothes. Kripal, please educate these people as gracefully as possible. I have stopped visiting many places for this one reason even though the food tastes good.
