Hello guys, I thought that only in Argentina they made those transformation grafts from car to spaceship, adding cables and knobs where they are not necessary but I see that some of our engineers went to live in the United States and did his thing 🤣🤣🤣🤣very good project, I already want to listen to that V12. I send you a big hug and blessings to all from Buenos Aires Argentina
@derrickrees88956 ай бұрын
Interesting that the major defect attributed to the V12 (292 or 312 cu in ) , was that the engine had poor ventilation , thus the oil quickly became contaminated , contributing to premature wear of rings and bearings . A previous owner seems to have tried to correct this by means of these modifications... Another problem was allegedly that the motor had a LOT of low down torque , which encouraged lazy owners to hang onto high gear .While the bottom end was actually quite good at handling high revs ( reputedly good for over 90 m.p.h ) , it was NOT so happy at low revs in high gear when oil pressure was low ( and oil possibly contaminated ) - so excessive engine wear could occur.

I re-wired my 57 Catalina (I'm set up with a rack of wire spools.). One wire at a time. Including a new marine grade fuse block. It's hidden, nobody can see it. Simplified a few circuits in the process. And lowered amperage and current draw with led bulbs while I'm at it. It all looks stock unless you peak under the dash. Even cloth taped it (hockey tape). I'm an electronics nerd so I enjoy shit like that.

The color made be Spode Green. Body no plate on the cowl left of the right hood hinge. The motor number left frame rail at the engine cross member, top of transmission bell housing and on the left rear frame rail looking through the gas filler access panel. The body number can also be found on the trunk between the hinges as a 57-??? Number. You have cast aluminum A and B post body mounts which ca crack and cause issues with the doors to crack.

i had heard that the Ford flathead V12 had oil pressure problems ( and overheating issues) due to the design of oil distribution within the engine. ( Too many places for oil to circulate). Maybe todays improved oil formulations will help plus 40W oil. The previous owner of this car meant well, but instead created an electrical frankenstein which should be challenging to unravel and rewire.Good to have multiple fire extinguishers handy. This looks like a rare vehicle and a convertible as well.

With the multi-meter and vacuum gauge on the dash and mystery carburetor, I bet he was one of those gas mileage nuts from back then who was trying to wring 13.1 m.p.g. out of that V12 instead of the stock 12.86. 😆 Since it's so far gone from stock already, I think you should keep going down the mild kustom route. It's already nosed, the stock height windshield looks like it's been chopped and lowering it an inch or two would complete the look. A set of Cadillac sombrero caps and wide whites with a repaint in that nice stock dark green would be too kool for skool.

This is definitely the strangest collection of electrical science projects installed on a car that I have ever seen in my life. I used to work on modifying Chinook Helicopters at the Ridley, PA plant before I retired to the Texas Hill Country. I've seen my share of science projects believe me. This car is quite unique. Having the multimeter wired into the circuitry of the car with ballast resistors and who knows what else is out there. Is this car going to be referred to as "Mad Scientist II" or Mad Scientist Lincoln"? Moon had a cornucopia of smells and seemed really into this car. I think it would be a cool car to restore to a running survivor. Too bad about the bumpers. Maybe they could be blasted and powder coated a non intrusive color as I wouldn't want to finish the car back to showroom stock, but keeping them as is is just a bit too tatty for me. I'm with Mike and wish more of the green would have survived. Get it running as the '39 Coup is and drive this one everywhere. It is just too cool and where would you find another at this price point? It would definitely be fun to drive and a great cruiser, one of the last really cool pre WW2 surviving cars. And admit it Matt, I see the twinkle in your eye when you talk about this one. Like the early rusty car addict that you are, this one has got you good. You won't be selling it until you drive it. It is just too cool of a car not to want it any other way. I look forward to seeing this one rise from its hiding place to running and driving. Make it so and thanks for the entertainment along the way!
