I'm enjoying the series on this bike so far, thanks! It's so satisfying to dig into an old bike and see what's sticking, what's doing what, what's not doing what.... I'm lucky enough to have a friend with a shop, and yesterday I got to take my oil pump out, take it apart, look at every little thing, clean it and put it back. Now I feel like the internals of a 1966 Triumph motorcycle are less mysterious, and more personal to me, the current owner. (The pump looked fine, but it was nice to see that in person.)

Well it seems this is truly a worthy project! Da Judge bike was only seven years old when I was born into this world. I truly love those old Triumphs! I have a 03 Bonneville that I will keep till I kick the bucket and pass it on down to whichever grandkid wants to keep a piece of ol' grandpa around lol! I don't really have a mechanical bone in my body and I applaud what you do for the motorcycle world of Triumph. I turn 66 this month. Hmmm, I think a Weems Motor Co hat or tee shirt would be most excellent for my B-day present with some free stickers. I do believe I shall! Loved the video, and look forward to next week's edition. Ride those Triumphs and stay safe down in hot Fla!

Good Luck with the Judge Mr. Weems. I actually love an intact rust bucket. Cleaning all the parts and replacing very little is so satisfying when she fires to life again. Mine were Pans and Ironheads and the occasional Indian but everything with two wheels is worthy of love and attention. A sad statement about today's riders; " few know their hand signals and think turn signals and brake lights are mandatory!". You are in my prayers Hoka Hey

The Judge would be proud. I'm all for patina, but you want to do things to "stop the bleeding" so to speak... like maybe add some leather to or reupholster that entire seat with some old leather so the foam isn't showing. The way it is now it's only going to get worse.

It depends on the year. The engine in this bike is 1959.

Weems, I believe if you remove that piece of chain, it may still not rotate so you may have to rebuild that tranny and the engine both

I have heard pre unit heads prone to cracking. Do you know if this is true. And if so. How do you go about repairing them? Thanks

Yes they are, if they are over torqued or unevenly done so they will crack from the head bolt holes into the combustion chamber!

Hey what does everyone like to use to check for spark? Thanks. I see HB has an in-line tester only 4.99

Honestly all you have to do is make sure. You have power running to the points.then you just try to start it with the plug or coil wire touching metal.you’ll see spark if there’s juice running to the points.never used a tester myself.if it’s jumping spark & there’s compression.should start.

I just do a visual check with the plugs out of the head.

This being a magneto fired bike you have to rotate the engine.
