Bobby Hatfield's soaring vocals are without doubt the definitive version. Spine chilling!

My husband and I have been married for 35 years. We saw the Righteous Brother performed Unchanged Melody's. This became our song.

For further history of the song, the original 1955 version was the theme song for a little known black and white movie titled "Unchained". The movie is a prison movie and the song is the main character's longing for his lover, wondering and hoping that she waits for him. The line "Time goes by so slowly" is a direct reference to serving time behind bars. The full length movie, "Unchained" is available on KZbin. I'm old and was a very early Elvis fan, but his version of this song pales in comparison to Bobby Hatfield's perfect 4 octave tenor. Younger singers and changing music styles were leaving Elvis behind by the time he recorded "Unchained Melody" in 1977 and the older Elvis got, the harder he seemed to strain his voice and excessive energy in his stage performances out of what looked like desperate competitiveness. His talent suffered for it.
