It was a 428, which was the same engine family as the 427. But it had a smaller bore, and longer stroke, so it was easier to cast the block. It actually was only advertised as 335 hp, but made closer to 400. 500 would be an overestimate.
@user-qr7ee2cp4y Жыл бұрын
Correctly rated at 375 at 5200... but they Rev to 6000 or more so it was very deceptive. Watch video of "stock boss 429".. it's under 500 hp

The original Boss 429 (1359 made from 1969-70) came out of the factory with around 550bhp and the later models were detuned because of emissions and they made around 450bhp. The more powerful ones (first 279 made) were 1969 models and they are refered to as the 'S-Code' engined cars because they had more powerful NASCAR Internals. The later 1969 ones are the 'T Code' engined cars, they revved quicker but had the added smog and emissions equipment. The 1970 cars (499 made) were labeled as the 'A code' engined cars. They didn't have the NASCAR Internals. 375bhp was still an understatement however, It was mainly marketed as such to lower the Insurance cost of the car. All of the cars came with power steering, power brakes, disc brakes at the front and a 4 speed manual as standard, no automatic was available. No cars however came with A/C. It was also the first Mustang ever to be fitted with a rear sway bar. Still didn't handle well though (lol), as any classic muscle car. Till this day, the Boss 429 still holds the title for the largest factory hood scoop fitted to not just any Mustang, but any Ford In general. This review sorta came In clutch cause I just got Into reading about this Mustang a month ago, usually am not a fan of muscle cars, I mean they're cool for sure but never was really that much Into them as I am Into drivers cars. A '69 Boss 429 In Raven Black though, something about It speaks to me. Thanks for the review!

Did you notice they talk very little about the car I never heard how many gears on the transmission or what the real cubic inch was except for a glance. They never showed us the rest of the car especially underneath or a real view of the engine. They could take a lesson from Maple motors. Anyway, the original 429 Boss hemi was a NASCAR engine It was built by Ford to beat the 426 hemi. And it did put out some great horsepower I believe this was in 1967 maybe before.

When they put the Boss 429 into the mustang in 1969 it was under carbureted, under cammed and the timing was set for Street driving. Then, they fudged the final horsepower figures for insurance reasons. Add to that the fact that this was a high compression motor requiring what was available at the time, high octane leaded gas which made a lot more power then the garbage we pump into our tanks today,
