The s550 is absolutely one of the more reliable German automobiles for sure. 07 had some tranny issues but 08-09 flawless. 10-13 flawless.

For the 2013 S-Class model, power was increased from 429 HP to 449 HP. I think this is a boatload of car for under $30k but I would be worried about ownership costs. Especially with the Airmatic.

@@troytruong8246 Just to clarify, by 2013 model I meant the W221 in its final year of production, not the W222. Yeah, if you want a lasting and reliable car, the Lexus LS will be better. Its main drawbacks compared to the biturbo S-Class are performance related (torque, acceleration) but these are minor issues in practical terms.

@@MeynMotorGroup Yeah I went with a little 4th gen Lexus GS 350 F Sport RWD. The things I like about it are the Active Variable Suspension which really firms up a surprising amount in Sport + mode, the rear wheel steering improves handling and reduces the turning radius, the variable steering weights up and becomes more direct in sports mode, and the transmission will hold onto gears and blip the throttle in manual mode. Then put in back to normal mode and its a comfy luxury daily cruiser.

The 4.6 BiTurbo is worlds better than the previous 5.5 V8 in both reliability and performance. I love the look of this generation compared to the new one, It has a old school luxury feel.

Good review. I see these cars all over the place now and I assume that is due to the huge depreciation. I feel that S-Class and 7 Series no longer command the same presence they once held. Living in Germany a few times I remember theses cars being something special even though European cars were quite common. Now there is so many cars to chose from that are just as nice or nicer at this price (LS460, Q70 L, Equss or K900).

Been a fan of the S class since I saw it a few times in the Geneva International Car Exhibition in the early 90s. This W221 has superb looks overall. Not a fan of those tail lights thou but even those look better than the ones on the W222 or the latest one. S550 consumes quite a bit so I would go for the diesel version. If one intends to own for the long term, airmatic can be costly to repair after years go by. Had a luxury Audi before and the air suspension broke after 13 years and the repair cost was 50% of the value of the car.

I have the 07. They’re pretty reliable vehicles and are SIGNIFICANTLY more reliable than the 2000-2006 W220 models. Mine has 101000 miles and it’s mostly just been maintenance and a few small things like airmatic compressor, leaking PCV valve, and trans mount.

I have a 2013 and I guess some models did not come with a push button or USB?! I have a push button and my USB is in the glove box. I also have the rear seats that massage and recline. Great Review

they all came with push button, it's just missing on the car in the video I have the S63 2011 and I have the push button, FYI you can remove the button and just use the key, I do that sometime when I want access the service menu or use OBD it take the guess work out of the way.

getting mine tommorow. a 2012. i can buy the newer model ones but i always stay away with the latest. its because cars r being mass produced now, having shortage in materials, they r doi g everything they can to cheap out and save. latest cars just looks like alien robots and plasticky. i also have a 2009 e350 coupe never ever had a single problem with it. my x5 x drive on the other hand already had 4 visits to a shop, water pump, fuel injections, ignition coil, ball joint. i just luv benzes. just keep the car maintained and they will never fail

I been having thoughts on the 2013 Benz, some say it doesnt have enough features like the led lights or the nightvision crap, or HUD but honestly I rather spend $20K on this than $93K, besides knowing that these maybe technological they depreciate it can be a fun project that can take time if you got another $100-10K depending on the issues it may have. I honestly love to own one, have it fixed and detailed like it came used from the MB lot except the work done myself with some help 🤣

Can’t you just swap the air suspension for normal struts to avoid catastrophic air suspension failure soon? I hear that the car is fairy reliable except for stuff here and there so I’m considering looking for one to buy

I think they might be available. But it is not recommended. The car car was never meant to run anything different than airmatic and it actually could cause problems along the way. The best method is check that airsprings aren't all cracked or leaky before purchase. A restored air kit is 500$ per spring and 1k if you go for new ones. Also it's only the front that are failure likely rears are pretty much maintenance less

It's a beautiful, classy sedan. Wow, he said tbede 429 horsepower and 516 lb. feet or torque. Those are statistics I expect to find in a Corvette, not a sedan even if it does have a V8. .

In the US the W221 is only available in long wheelbase format. In Europe, luckily, we get short wheel base models, which is more attractive unless you want to look like a limo driver. I'm about to switch from a BMW F01 7 series into a Mercedes W221, I would NEVER buy a long wheelbase.

I love the S500 and would love a AMG but the only thing I hate is the way the new ones always make the interiors of the older ones look so outdated. When this came out it was easily the nicest thing on the road but when you see the newer models its like holy shit this is beautiful and the older one turns into a cougar😂. It almost makes it tough to buy an older one rather than same mm save for a used newer one.

Max the Maltese dog the valve stem seals will still likely give up on the BMW but it will take a little longer with the later valve stem seals. Benz doesn’t have noted problems there. With the twin turbo BMW the tech will want to lift body up off the front subframe. $$$$$$$$

I looked into Mercedes and its a hassle to own second hand and it be your only car. Fix anything on it something else break or the car just won't run without a system tool to rest it or tell you exactly what you need to do. Also all the parts are enormously over priced because they really don't keep a design or engineering the same over a course of time like a Lexus where second hand a Lexus would sell at a higher value over a Mercedes becasue of all the many things that can break on a Mercedes with its totally against owner fixing any of it, on their own, engineering. Engineering suppose to make things simplistic and use less of many things but have many monitors so as to inform people of the things that are a must to maintain said engineered product. Since there is a window for longevity built into the design of these vehicles second hand ownership is possible going to be a worse experience over a Lexus ownership. I would rather have a Hyundai or Lexus over an old model Mercedes because the expense to own those cars would be less for me since I work on my own vehicles; Mercedes just eat your time away figuring out what is wrong with the car after a break change and you don't have the tools needed to assure it cranks after or get out of limp mode. What I do want to make aware to the world is Cary Imports 4 year unlimited mile warranty for $2600 which covers everything top to bottom which you want with just about every car from Cary Imports because they don’t sell Camrys and Accords they only sell unique cars like this

It will cost $1 in repair cost per mile you drive it in my experience. It was fun but at the end of the day not worth it.

Well that’s why I started doing car reviews, the media has built such a wrong picture in everyone’s minds about these cars. Granted this particular Benz had a lot of miles, I’m sure it felt much better when it was new. These cars are best leased but some don’t like leasing because of mileage limits so they have to search used. These cars don’t age well but Lexus does. My 08 LS460 felt tighter and better than this but the S class does drive better which is why these things are best bought new
