You can theoretically slide the automatic, it’ll be way harder. And the automatic transmission won’t hold much power. My advice swap a 5 speed and get a stage 2 clutch, should be good for 250whp

According to the folks at Flyin' Miata, the 7 inch ring gear on the 1994-2005 Miatas are good for a bit more power than the factory gearbox. The 5-speed gearbox is safe up to 250 whp, the 6-speed is a bit stronger. The 1984-88 RX-7 clutch-pack LSD can be a worthwhile upgrade with the factory 7 inch rear end if the owner wants to change the bias ratio of the LSD.
