@davespooney84724 жыл бұрын
Friend used to sell these back in the day, I’ve been in about 30 of em. Couple of points: A good 1.6 feels faster than a rough 1.9. On fresh suspension - Peugeot killed it with the damping, soaks up all the bad roads like a small car shouldn’t and stiff enough for amazing handling. The Mi16 motor, cammed with throttle bodies was the ultimate non turbo way to go in the 90’s, still can’t believe they are just average compared to today’s hatches. If you told me back then a 2020 Golf has 300+BHP and 4WD i would have told you to put the crack pipe down. Great vid 👍

A real car. Back in the day I had a drive in a TSR(Tim Stiles Racing) MkI 2.0 turbo golf, think it was about 270 bhp, it really was hard to imagine anything being faster, probably the most drivable car I've ever experienced, I think it weighed about 890KG. The original 205 gti 1.6 was 113 BHP the later 1.9 was 130BHP. The 405 gti Mi16 was 160 BHP standard. The 205 1.9 had non assisted power steering it used to load up real heavy on long sweeper!

I had a 1.6 gti, in 1990, and i hammered it everywhere and it never broke down, surprisingly! In the wet, when it started to understeer, if you lifted off ,and quickly hammered the accelerator pedal, it would go into a slight 4 wheel drift, that you didn’t need to counter-steer into.A lot more twitchy than my dads mkIl golf gti, that he had, at the time. Such a great car.We didn’t have sticky tyres back then, so i wonder what it would feel like on r888s or michelin cup2s. Always fancied buying one , just to reminisce, but stupid money for a good one, now.
