You nailed this. Too many people imagine swinging the club “back n forth”, in a straight line(which is the target line). This causes many issues…. Over the top, swing too steep, early extension, etc. The golf swing IS NOT a straight up n down pendulum swing. The arc should be significantly “flatter” that what most people imagine. That’s why there are a million videos about “shallowing” the shaft. lol
@al13564 ай бұрын
Hmm I wonder if this why Finau and Bradley flatten the arc so much. Maybe it has to do with how you control your body movements to match the angle of the club and keep it on that angle throughout the swing

Once I put the together, I'm playing the best golf of my life! Thanks for all your help!

Unfortunately was on the 2nd to last hole but I pured my next shot on a par 3 20 yards past the green dead center over flag. Truly felt like the holy grail yesterday and immediately had to look up what felt like to me as an over hand swing. @loganjordan9752 Жыл бұрын
@@HolyGrailOfGolf I searched overhanded golf on KZbin after I felt the sensation...it was the only way that I could conceptualize what I had just done because it truly felt like my swing. I thought about it quite a bit afterwards, and it kept logically making more sense and why it was the correct way to swing..I think I showed my girlfriend this chopping motion 100 times like you're just hitting a baseball off a tee (she thinks I'm crazy now), but changing the arc. quickly realized I was bringing the bottom of the arc back to my right heel in the underhand swing and compensating by falling forward...overhand the bottom of the arc always stays on the ball and I can load everything and swing with no fear. Laughed a lot because I felt like golf instantly became easy, I just had to think about the swing differently. So I searched to see if anyone had felt the same thing.

Oddly, only people with good swings tend to shank the ball occasionally. The shank you're talking about is just a 1/8th of an inch too far toward the hosel. All you have to do is address the ball on the toe and imagine you're going to strike it there. George Knudsen advocated for every club to be addressed off the toe because the arms stretch slightly when swinging the club at full speed.

I like your videos because of your focus on intentions that are useful when learning the proper movement to swing a golf club. Problem is I've watched videos that say the swing is an overhand throw, an underhand throw, like skimming a stone, swinging an axe or throwing a hammer. It is none of these things. It's a separate skill. It's a golf swing.
@HolyGrailOfGolf4 ай бұрын
Thank you. The thing is the golf swing is like a few of the things you mentioned but not directly. There are compensations that need to be made like skipping a stone - that motion will work but not if you do it toward the target. A stone and a 4 foot long lever are never going to react the same and assume they would is just silly, which is why it doesn't work when people try it.

This is not a joke, try hitting the ball as far right as you can. Try to swing the club through impact with an open clubface that would glance the inside of the ball. It can't be done at full speed. As I talk about here, the club has to approach from the inside, only meeting the target line at impact. High right shots are a result of trying to move the clubhead down the target line.

@HolyGrailOfGolf2 жыл бұрын
I'll agree that Justin does, but it's not like what I'm talking about here. Justin's truly swinging the club on plane but just a bit upright. What I'm talking about here is when people try to make their clubhead move in a vertical manner or plane that the shaft is no where near. It's a big conical. They're basically trying to make a vertical circle with the clubhead while the handle stays fairly static. There's very little energy transferred to the ball and well, it's just a horrible idea and the simple reason so many people are so bad at golf.

I notice you swing under Hogan’s plane. How do you handle the backswing to wind up in the right position at the top?
@HolyGrailOfGolf9 ай бұрын
The position at the top is determined by your intention to swing. Also, the more I think about it I think the swing plane idea is a detriment to the average golfer. After they learn about it they attempt to swing on it, as they think they should and their swing gets worse. Watch Jon Rahm and notice he couldn't care less about a swing plane. Golf is about learning to hit and control the ball. There are no awards for having the most beautiful or technically perfect golf swing. The ball is all that matters but we have to learn to use the golf club properly in order to navigate the ball through the course. Hogan illustrated the swing plane as a plane of glass in order to show that if you break the plane you'd break the glass. The whole idea is to stay under the plane.

Most amateur golfers have faults in there swings, this kind of tip does not help. My advice to anyone looking to improve there game should seek help from a good teaching professional the fundamentals of a golf swing are far more important than gimmick videos like this . To improve you have to do the right things and work hard at it. Sorry but that's the hard truth
@HolyGrailOfGolf2 ай бұрын
That simply isn't true - you do not "have to work hard at it," to play golf well. YOU HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO USE THE TOOL PROPERLY and literally no one does. The golf club is like magic when used properly and becomes an evil spiteful snake when used improperly. If what you say is true how can a 5 year old kid pick up a club for the first time and have a great swing in 15 minutes? Did he/she "work really hard" in that 15 minutes? No, of course not. The child has no "superficial knowledge" that an adult has so they let the club teach them, whereas adults spend their whole life trying to teach the golf club to do what they think it should - and it refuses every time.

You have spent the majority of the video telling someone how not to hit the ball incorrectly thereby reinforcing their bad habits. Do not despair, most instructors do likewise, especially on KZbin. All you need to say is that the majority of golfers are doing it wrong so here is the correct way. Then show them only the correct way. Sports psychology 101. I would challenge you to take ten golfers that request help and tell them the same as this video. Then take another ten golfers and tell them only how to hit it correctly and I will guarantee the results of the second group will be much better.

I totally agree! That's the way my videos were designed originally but I had to change because too many people were getting inspired and would watch and then immediately go out and swing a club ... therefore leaving KZbin, so when KZbin started tracking this they refused to promote my videos. When I started the channel I had 144k views per day but after they new algorithm and the demotion I went down to 1500/day. So, after doing some research about how and why it happened I had to try something a bit different. Also, I moved the most popular and truly inspiring videos to my website and now my youtube views have gone up. All youtube cares about is that you continue watching youtube. I was purposely trying to inspire people to go and try what I was advocating but oddly that came back to bite me in a @$$. I do think it's important for people to understand that they're not doing whatever on purpose but rather x or y, which they believe they need to do, and physics, is actually causing it.

Hi Overhandgolf love your analysis of the golf swing. However the real golf swing is angular momentum. It is the simultaneous swinging of your club in a linear direction combined with a rotational direction. Like love and marriage; you can’t have lineal direction without rotational direction in a real golf swing. Separating the two distinct directions from the other is why most of the golfer in the world are at best boggy golfers. To achieve this essential complex diagonal swing simply know that your swing centered circle is anchored on your the grip of your club by your trail little finger. The Trail Little Finger is the only part of your body that your brains can sense the weight of your club head consistently traveling on it’s slanted circular path directly to and through the ball Swinging your club back and forth with your trail little finger will fold and unfold your body and direct both your body and your club head to achieve the real golf swing of angular momentum. Hope you give it a try. And remember you heard this first from me. Cheers ⛳️👍😃🥂

I'm not trying to insult you in any way but I've recently learned of an interesting complex known as "selection attention." Basically, it's when a person literally cannot hear the message being conveyed because they're completely unfamiliar with it so they immediately dismiss it without actually listening. So rather than thinking, "this is new," and listening to the message they're unconsciously saying to themselves, "nope, don't agree, what a bunch of hooey ..." My ideas are quite unique and new to many viewers so I get this response quite often. If I engage the person they usually come around and agree but it takes time.
