Interesting idea. I have been thinking of making a portable Comms box and at the moment I have plans to build one using a mini gun ammo can which opens both ends. I was looking at putting various charge and power sockets . I am looking at putting a multiband CB and a Ham radio along with sockets on the front and the back end will have antenna sockets and stowage for a T2TL antenna. I was going to use extension speaker's but think I re design front for a internal ext speaker

Made an entire sound system with CD player mounted in ammo cans back in the 80s in Berlin to use in my M35a2 when parked for long periods of time, used a walkman when driving. The whole system had to be able to be removed and be in ammo cans for stealth.

Glock Gaston It's designed in America; BY ME! They are _ILLEGALLY_ selling someones registered intellectual property. I wouldn't be surprised if they *_"INVENTED"_* an accompanying MP3 player called the *"My-Pod"*; Witch I'm sure would look and function in total congruency to a certain Apple product. But don't worry... They'll likely laser etch there name on it, CNC cut each button, _AND_ powder coat the face plate; so that they can justify price gouging the people to the tune of $350-to-$400.

Over all it looks pretty nice and be fun to take it to work. As far as taking it outdoors though I would be a little nervous. .50 ammo can solid as a rock, good rubber seal but the weak area I see is the speakers. They are exposed to the elements and if it rained or you were carrying it there would be a good chance of puncturing the speakers. They also need a cover with a waterproof seal around them to keep them protected. Outside of that they are kool looking besides providing power for some applications I do not see a real world application for them. Would not be worth much as part of my bug out gear and from what I saw the speakers do not have any amplification capability except what would be provided by the device hook up to them. Did I miss something?

There was this invention some time back called a smartphone, and it stores and plays music just fine. For $350, I can add a bunch of wireless bluetooth speakers all over my house. I could even put one in an ammo can for free.
@frequencydecline52508 жыл бұрын
Weirdly, I think, $350 is both reasonable and too expensive. $350, and I'm guessing its largely handmade and hand assembled, isn't too bad time/labor/some profit wise, but at $350 if you took your time even with minimum knowledge, you could probably do a close approximation or even a one with more functionality since all it is is a glorified speaker. ...so yeah it seems to butt up against that price point of being roughly accomplishable DYI project but reasonable to price it at if you are the one building them for other people. There is a fair amount of wasted space in there too with some pointless complexity. ...now I'm eyeing some of that old electronic equipment in the corner of the room, the raspberry pi, and the mostly empty ammo can. lol....guess there is another idea to throw on the back burner of projects....
@the2d8 жыл бұрын

Very cool project. I would think that a LiPo battery would be a better choice and it's HALF (or less) the weight! I have tried the SLA batteries and they do work but like someone else said, they are not designed for this. I also agree that the $350 price is just right and too much at the same time. It all depends if you have the time/skills to do it yourself. I have seen several of these and this is one of the best.

If there is a war right now, and you have to fight, would you rather taking an AR15 or SCAR 17s and why?
@airbornemerlin8 жыл бұрын
i would recommend you add some kind of flap with gasket, like the ammo can lid, to the speaker holes, latching, to give it true ruggedness and waterproofing. You can probobly epoxy on a good lid to make a good looking after market modification. .. just use some rtv and some rtv release compound to make a gasket.. or cut one.
@airbornemerlin8 жыл бұрын
shame to use fairly high quality components (though i am suspicious of the little voltmeter! I would use a analog display lol) while leaving it vulnerable to the elements like that :(
@airbornemerlin8 жыл бұрын
though the display is isolated by that switch, so even if its a cheapie chinese module, it won't take the circuit down if it shorts out.
@airbornemerlin8 жыл бұрын
and i am curious about the choice of SLA battery, rather then a lithium one. Less chance of a fire hazard I suppose, which is good if you want to store it along with flame sensitive materials... however i would not fancy a battery leaking acid fumes! perhaps a case could be made for the nickle metal hydride battery.. despite its flaws..
@airbornemerlin8 жыл бұрын
thought if the near by munitions are stored properly a bit of sulfuric acid should not be a problem
@airbornemerlin8 жыл бұрын
and full sealing might be a problem if moisture is allowed to get into the unit and then trapped in there.. that would turn into a pain in the ass with desiccant or requiring full weather resistant construction.. unless you just make note to store it open...

Nice built speaker but the price is insane. That connecting sound of the BT Module clearly indicate it's a cheap one from China like all the switches and other stuff mounted. you can DIY build this for under 100 Bucks. And you should use a VRLA battery instead of a motorcycle type.
