@@muriellebanackissa Hey Murielle, there are quite a few half - frame cameras out there. Olympus Trip 35 , Olympus Pen, Fujica Mini, Canon Demi, Ricoh Auto Half SE. However these all cost $300 CDN and up. SO, In terms of budget half frame cams there aren't many that are made recently. Do your googles but for $50 the H35 seems to be your "cheapest" option atm. @@tahaphoto yes! can I use the opportunity to ask you if it automatically gives me the 72 shots when I advance the film? or if I'm not careful it skips a half frame thinking I'm taking full frame pictures? sorry if it's a stupid question!
@tahaphoto
@tahaphoto 9 ай бұрын
No question is a dumb question. Each time you press the shutter, you've taken a single image. You must advance the film forwad to the next frame (by cocking the "film advance" dial after each photo that you take) or you risk taking a multiple exposure. Your image counter will continue going up til you reach 72 exposures (based on a traditional roll of 36 exposures). Rinse and repeat. 🙏🏽👍🏼

Thank you Thank you Thank you for the graphic / diagram showing us _how_ the Portrait / Landscape thing works. When I was watching the official introductions of this camera they just told us "It's a Portrait camera." I had no idea what that meant. Generally, one mistake uploaders make is that they try to show us how very easy everything is, by making a 1 minute clip: _That's how easy it is!_ They may mean well, but just confuse beginners by rushing with that infuriating, jerky editing and not explaining things properly. I've watched at least 5 clips devoted to this camera and is by far the most helpful. Subscribed.

Raédience! Thanks for making some time to hear what I'm rambling about.😄🙏🏽 Some tips when starting out... To first answer your question about getting better quality, I'm assuming you're referring to image quality? That would have to do a lot more with your lens selection/ exposure and lighting of your scene... But for now maybe the focus can be... 1. Spend the least amount of money on a film camera. (Ideally a reusable point & shoot) 2. Buy the cheapest film you can find (online or in-person). Black & white tends to be cheaper in general. 3. Practice as much as possible Film is inheirtly expensive, so pace yourself . That's why I highly recommend the half-frame cameras. You save and you can become very creative👌🏽 Hit me up with any other specific questions you may have.

I’m really considering getting one of these, or the newer H35N. I think you could get some cool sets of photos, where you take a picture of a subject in a wider frame and then take a second of the same subject but closer in from a different angle, focus on something that makes it stand out. Two photos of the same thing but slightly different perspectives. Idk, might end up being lame but I’m trying to explore my creative side a bit more and just shoot. I spend too much time worrying about if something is “worthy” of taking a photo but with a half frame just go for it right?!

Timmy! First off, thanks for watching🙏🏽 Your creative instincts are correct. Get out there and make images of anything you find interesting. That's the beauty of the the half-frame camera. Point and shoot! I would recommend this model over the brand new one since it's about $15 cheaper. You can put that towards a roll of film. Kodak 200 or Portra 400 will do just fine. Both are colour or go bw, save a few more bucks and get kentmere 400. Either way. Have fun!! Keep me posted on your results. 🙏🏽

@tahaphoto Жыл бұрын
Andrew! That's great news. Congrats on making the leap into film photography. You'll love film photography if you prioritize process and progress over your esrliest results. Testing film stocks would be my only recommendation at this stage of the game. On the colour side of things I would say go with the cheapest film stocks first (why waste money when practicing?) So, at the time of writing this that would be Fuji Colour 200 (3pack 36 exp. - $60 CDN) . As for BW film, Kentmere 100 Pan (6.99 CDN per roll 36 exp.). Remember, this are price reccos, though I do like both film stocks, as they do perform well in most conditions. We can talk about colours, style etc on another post. Get your reps in with the 72 exposures, have fun. Let a local film lab do all the scanning for now. IMO, you can always scan later down the road when you have lots of practice under your belt. I hope you find this info helpful. Keep us updated on your experience shooting film! ✌🏽

@tahaphoto
@tahaphoto 6 ай бұрын
Great question. The H35 is a half- frame camera! Means you get double the exposures (36 is 72 images on a roll). Also, the H35 has an aperture of f8 working a little better in lower light situations than the Kodak f9 (you guessed it, f9 aperture). However, the K-f9 has a slightly faster shutter speed (1/120s vs 1/100s on thr H35).. so really, it comes down to ideal film speed and aesthetic preference. Either cam, I would choose 200 film speed. ie Kodak color plus or portra 160 ($$$). Both are fun.... you just get waaay more creative wiggle room with the H35. Hoe this helps!🙏🏽😊

Once you finish shooting all the photos on your roll of film, you'll need to rewind the roll. (Instructions on youtube). 2. Find a camera story that scans and develops film. Hey Anacayse! Thanks for watching the video. 400 ISO is a good all-around film speed that can be used for sunlit days as well as photos indoors, or at night. Your shots shouldn't be over exposed. I appreciate your question. Have you passed the 36th frame? Can you pass the 36th frame? You should see the number continue to rise all the way to 72. Remember each time you advance the film roll to the next frame aka cocking the shutter you're basically moving it forward a "half-frame". Does that make sense? Film stock example: Film name: Kodak ColorPlus 200 Number of exposures included: 24 The Kodak H35 takes 35mm film. Either 24 exposures or 36 exposures per roll depending on what you prefer. Now the next question is did you load the film roll correctly? There are a few film loading vids, check this one out by Will Langston: kzbin.infoDsVRfn-7g8U?si=qh0R-cg1U_YpoOZa Now, let me know if any of these suggestions helped solve your issues. 🙂

Great. That film should work perfectly. 27 exposures x 2 will give you 54 exposures using the H35. I've given you a lot of resources and solutions. Please try each one of them (including testing a new roll of film if budget permits, see if that solves the problem) . Good luck!

what film roll would you recommend for this camera for a day at the beach? and which one for the night?
@tahaphoto
@tahaphoto Жыл бұрын
Hey Daniel, thanks for watching. 🙏🏽 You have a lot of film stock choices when shooting a day at the beach. If it's bright and sunny you'll want a low ISO film (ISO 100 /200) KODAK GOLD 200 is great for that plus it produced warm colours... if it's overcast at the beach you'll need more light so film with an ISO of 400 will do the trick (think Kodak Portra 400) other companies have 400 films, so do your research. As for night photography, use Portra 800 or Cinestill 800t . Hope this helps. It will be expensive but worth it in the end hopefully 🙏🏽

Aashi! Are you new to shooting film? 200 ISO is helpful so I always recco Kodak Gold 200 or Kodak Colorplus 200. The outdoors on a bright, sunny day, this film thrives. 400/800 ISO would be my choice on cloudy, overcast days. So I would recco Kodak Portra 800 or Fuji Superia 400 if you can get your hands on some. Fuji has a cooler look than Kodak but you may like that. Experimentation will answer all your questions. Indra! Thx for watching. It's a pretty tight fit once your film is loaded. I haven't heard of any overlapping issues with the H35. The process is quite simple... Why do you need these, if you can get soviet half-frame AGAT 18k for cheaper price? It has tessar 28mm/f2.8, you can choose f-stop and it's smaller. You make great points. I actually agree with you... but this camera is for the "care-free shooter" who wants to point and shoot. No thinking about aperture, f-stop. Simply point and shoot. And if they still like what they created and the experience around making images but want more features... they might just make the switch to a AGAT. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Who knows. @@tahaphoto AGAT has a very easy exposure calculator, based on sunny 16 rule. Just set ISO, and then just turn aperture-ring to icons of "sun", "cloud", "window". Just google how it looks. The problem with fixed f9.5 and 1/100 - it's difficult to shoot when it's not sunny. I love to shot on Agat cinema film, like Kodak Vision 50d or 200t. Just like super-35 cinema format. And Kodak Aerocolor IV also works very nice. For black and white I use pulled to 50iso AGFA Aviphot 200. The smaller the grain, the better. I think you can't shoot 50 ISO film with Ektar h35 even on a sunny day. There will be 1-2 stops of underexposure.

Otherwise, there are so many other options for this price point that easily out perform this camera. This is not to say its not fun! To your point, tons of features and the price point is worth it ($300 US roughly) ... with that said, I've made the point before. A lot of casual users want to have a value and not think about settings. All with "cool design". I think that $50-$65 is pretty good. Then add in creative freedom on film with up to 72 frames.
