This is my partners feed. Thank you guys for going there and posting your record. At least there is some photographic record of the Inn in its last throws which for me and many others is a very sad moment! I used to live opposite this pub and my family have all been connected to it. My dad was head chef in the sixties and I recognize areas of the kitchen and the servery leading into the Tudor ballroom used for dinner and dances and discos in the seventies. The original inn I believe was built in the thirteenth century and was the front bar nearest the road. Under that flooring board is stone flags from the original Mediaeval Inn. The builder ( I do not know his name) in the forties used reclaimed church and medieval building salvage as a result of the second world war to extend and build this mega-pub. It was frequented from people far and wide especially from London for dinner/dances and weekly discos etc.. The Round table were regular customers and held many events there. There was even a weekly Antique market held there during the eighties. I used to be the cloakroom attendant during the seventies! My sister was a waitress and my mother a bookkeeper. It would be lovely to see the Inn restored but otherwise the fixtures and timbers and stained glass should be going to museums or into research. Who knows what secrets they may hold?! Many timbers may have come from Tudor ships originally. Please get someone involved like National Heritage or National Trust at least to be part of the demolition which is obviously what the the developers want! Thank you

What was the reason for its decline? This place is so lovely. It’s a real shame!
@gonsolop2429 Жыл бұрын
You know all this information, the location, & you expect the trespassers to contact public authority figures to reclaim the antiques. Its my understanding that these guys simply intrude, goofoff some, show their vids on youtube so that such public figures are overwhelmingly notified by viewers like yourself to somehow save the antiques legally.

I 2nd this opinion. I love the old stuff, the rich history, BIG SHAME the black has yet to be treated & this place left too rot. What would it take to buy it, responsibly remove to an onsite warehouse the added antiques from the 50s onward, ( for research & museums ) And restore the pub into it's likeness from say....the 1700s? ( With all the original parts still intact. )

Great find guys. I love watching Ed 'bazz' around with his enthusiasm. Back in Tudor times you paid taxes on your windows, the bigger the windows were the more tax you'd have to pay, hence most Tudor buildings were built with small windows.
@VacantHaven Жыл бұрын
Haha glad you like! Thanks for the info 😁👍
@lindathomas5500 Жыл бұрын
The placement of that window looking inwards means that is where the great hall would have been in the original Tudor building (the dining hall) it enabled the young females to discreetly watch the proceedings without having to come into contact with those dining! The stairs would never have been there!

What a beautiful place you found for the video today. The amount of stained glass is phenomenal. I've never seen an abandoned place with so much "real" leaded stained in one place. I wonder how old they are. A lot of the rooms are incredibly large, almost as if it was for an entire village for meeting or other reasons. I think looking at the inside of this building is much bigger that it looks like from the outside. The structures had many buildings and rooms added on over the centuries. At least the architecture was kept in place with the additional structures. This was a wonderfull adventure. Thank you all very much for this beautiful and incredible tour.
