I am quite scrupulous and currently going through a really rough time with despair, I've almost completely given up until today. I will be using this Lent to hopefully rebuild and strengthen my faith. I'm going to be focusing mostly on getting a good amount of sleep and praying more consistently, particularly with the Rosary and the Jesus Prayer. Hopefully this will guide me back to the sacraments and the fullness of God's grace. St. Micheal, pray for us!

In his last Saint Michael's Lent in 1224 (that's 800 years ago), one night around the Feast of the Exultation of the Cross, Saint Francis of Assisi was deeply in prayer and contemplation of the Passion of Christ in Mount La Verna (Tuscany in Italy). Suddenly, a Seraph appeared to Him and imprinted in his flesh the Stigmata of Our Lord Jesus Christ. On the 29th of September that year, he said his last goodbye to La Verna for He knew that the Lord has already completed His work in Him being crowned with the Wounds of Christ. Later as he recollect the event, he identified the Seraph as the Crucified Lord. He bore the Stigmata for two years until his death in 1226. As Franciscans, we remember this event in the life of our Founder every September 17, and this year is very special as we celebrate its 8th centenary. So doing the Saint Michael's Lent gives us the opportunity to be closer to the God, and certainly, if He wills, He can also imprint Himself in us, but only if we let ourselves be transformed by Christ!

Thank you for this! Fr. Mike Schmitz also has a video on this today. Ever since I came back to the flock, St. Michael has been my guide and Mary has been my peace. I started praying the rosary daily, and I am going to confession and Sunday mass again. Something has drawn me to them, and it has deepened my love and appreciation for Christ. The Holy Spirit speaks louder and clearer to me now more than ever. I am 43 and feel like I have just awakened from a long exhausting hazy dream. But I know the road is narrow and St. Michael has sparked a warrior Spirit within me. All for Christ. I am humbled but I fight the Adversary daily. Ups and downs. Highs and lows. I am taking your example and giving up coffee. Also no Instagram. No phone after 9pm. And I will pray to St. Michael daily, either a Novena, Hymn or prayer of devotion. God bless!

Saint Michael's lent has become a huge thing in Brazil. Millions of brazilians (including myself) wake up at 4am every day to pray the rosary (see channels like Frei Gilson / Som do Monte - OFICIAL or Ir Kelly Patricia OFICIAL / Instituto Hesed), and even more pray it during the day. I'm constantly amazed by how many lives have changed and how many miracles happen during this time. It's been a blessing. If you're thinking about starting it but fear you won't have strenght to do it, start doing it anyway. It's a spiritual battle, but the victory is already yours!

We have a 24 hour perpetual adoration Chapel at my church and I am assigned to two different days for an hour each a week. I’m going to spend a third hour during this Lent. I’m also going to give up sweets. ( I actually just got that idea from you!) I tend to eat ice cream going to bed and I’m going to give that up. Finally I’m going to say the chaplet of St Michael every day, I’ve always wanted to. The best part is that I never knew about this Lent before yesterday and I was so excited because September 29, 2016 is when I had a supernatural experience with Jesus, which brought me back to the Catholic Church after many years of almost atheism -drugs, alcohol, and lots of anger. September 29 was a very incredible day and it wasn’t until years later I learned was the feast day of the archangels. Thank you so much for sharing. I’ll be thinking of you during this time. It’s so cool it starts on this Holy Day of Mary-I am giving communion today, this is a great start! Thank you!

No Snoozing the alarm, No social media or news, fast every day having one meal without diary and meat at 3 pm. (Eastern Lenten fasting) not including Sundays. Cold shower Wednesday and Friday. Oh I didn’t know about this lent. For your consideration, I gave up coffee for three months last summer, and I didn’t know what I was getting into because I never drank coffee regularly, so I thought I was “immune” to coffee, I was like oh! This is going to be easy because I’m able to skip it for a few days, I never have issues with sleep, etc. These days my humble suggestion at least during the first week is to reduce the number of cups if you take more than one per day, or do half a cup if you only take one per day. I crashed so hard for three weeks by going cold turkey, it was not fun. I developed a new respect for coffee 😂😂 and I can see how it’s described as drug. It is worthy to go through the experience, just ease into it.

Peter and Paul Fast: depending on when Pascha falls between 1 day to 3 weeks 4. Dormition Fast: Aug 1 to Aug 15 till after Divine Liturgy Not to mention most Wednesdays and Fridays of the year except for the Fast Free weeks. I think the Latin Trads still have some of these fasts , and also the Uniate Eastern Rite Catholics seem to retain most of their traditions from before Latinization.

What’s really hard about giving up my phone is that even when I use the GPS, it counts towards actively using the phone despite using it to drive around to places. It never used to do that until it noticed I wasn’t using it as much so not it literally counts every minute I use it. It’s encouraging me to keep using the phone. It’s awful. I’ll use my phone just for responding to text messages, answering phone calls, listening to a podcast while driving, using the gps, and it COUNTS EVERY SECOND. Be aware of what it is you’re using the phone for. I have been starting to disregard the amount of time I use the phone for. Edit: today’s usage for my GPS was 3hr 11m. And it counts that as my active phone usage. It never did that when I started using my phone less.
