I got this same bass. Instead of filing the nut slots - tap the nut loose (yes they put some glue there) then sand it down some. I’ve done this on 2 of them now works great, then lower the action at the back and intonate it. Both the ones I worked on frets were great. And the necks were straight. Pickups not mind blowing or anything but work fine. LOVE LOVE LOVE the small scale of this.

I bought this strat scale bass. Did set up with light flat wounds. Finger banging this is easy as mud pie. No fkng pic needed. I love it. I can now fearlessly go up against any Bass player. All my fingering is the same as guitar. Playing triad, 5 and 7 chords, minor, major Double stops, octaves, diminished and augmented even two and four. Chords. In-between Shredding and arpeggios are a blast. I even bought bow and can put the round wounds on And bow this thing. I don't need no bass players Any more. Best money I ever spent. Ever❤😊

I've been really impressed with the cheaper end instruments I've bought in the last handful of years. The quality is much better for the parts on the instruments than they used to be at the cheap price point. Where the "cheap" shows up is in the SET UP. Like they saw here, the final set up of frets, nut, intonation, saddles, string quality, etc, was what was skimped on, because that is manual labor that would add to manufacturer's cost. If you are willing to do the set up yourself, you can get a pretty nice instrument for cheap.

I'm short so I play a short scale bass. I believe it's 28.5". Ibanez mikro 5 string. It played like absolute canned azzzz when I got it. I took it to a pro luthier who completely took it apart and reworked it. Adjusted bridge and intonation. Filed the nut. Reworked and filed down all the frets. That cost me $175. It plays like an absolute dream now. Best playing and sounding bass in my arsenal. My long scale bass now looks amazing hung up on my wall collecting dust.

Yeah. I bought the 4 string Ibanez Mikro Bass and swapped strings and set it up. Now it’s great. Much easier to grab and play for someone that mostly plays guitar.

Hold the string down at the first fret and at the 15th fret and then tap out the fifth and 7th fret and there should be a half a millimeter or so of relief go up from there as needed
