Lacks a touch of the well rounded bottom to go with the top.... But you are right... Closer than it should be.

I've been an audiophile for roughly 20 years, and for some reason KZbin showed me the other side of the game... now I've been watching all microphones and audio interface videos out there. Suddenly I have the urgency to buy a 416, a MKH50, a SM7B... for Zoom calls. Thank you for showing me an affordable option to soothe my soul!

As you said, Rick, if you're 'new to the game' this might be a good alternative to the 416. It does sound pretty close but not quite. The 'PG' is very plosive, it's not as 'forward' as the 416 and the mids are a little muddy. But I'm guessing if the the new VO artist can figure out mic technique and maybe a little EQing this would work until they book that $1k job to buy the Sennheiser.

That's what I'm thinking.

Pretty funny how the pop filter for that microphone costs as much as the mic does.

I know. Thanks for watching.

That is a sleeper! Sounds like it has a very similar flavor to the 416. Kind of like running the 416 through a high-pass filter at 80 or so.

Where did you get that pop filter on the 416?

I take it you mean the PGA-181? I can't find a PG-181 anywhere
@sirnigelcogs2 жыл бұрын
You'll get better plosive protection if you back the pop filter off a ways instead of putting it right up against the microphone.
@creatorsvillage2 жыл бұрын
Indeed. But sometimes you just need a little of that proximity effect you know?

Anyone happen to know the self noise level on the PGA 181? I can't even find it on Shure's website. If it's close to the King Bee II I'll consider a buy.
@creatorsvillage Жыл бұрын
Not officially. But I can say that mine isn't the lowest of my mics, but it's not horrible.

Damn wish I saw this before I bought the King Bee 2.

King bee 2 is also a solid mic though. It's not a bad choice at all.

The 416 absolutely sounds better, but I dunno if I'd say it sounds 10x better. The 181 is still a bit sensitive to plosives even with the big daddy pop filter. Definitely a great option for the price, even considering the drawbacks.

at 1:42 to call it the PG-181 and that's what was in the lower third - I figured it out though - my PGA-181 was delivered last Tuesday . . .

Do yourself a favour and buy the Rode NTG3 for even less than the 416 for a top of this range shotgun mic. I've subscribed to the Village Idiot's Voiceover Village. It's good to hear your self deprecating humour.

@Walter Williams - Have you tried the Rode NT3? One of my favorites for some sources.
@walterwilliams13232 жыл бұрын
@@redcabinacoustic-official Not for me personally for VO, because it’s a smaller diameter cardioid mic, better for instruments and podcasting/broadcasting.
@redcabinacoustic-official2 жыл бұрын
@@walterwilliams1323 Yea, it's a medium diaphragm condenser at 3/4 inch, but everyone loves their 1/2 shotguns - it's a great mic, borrow one sometime and try it.
