Wonderful! Do the local archaeologists know about these? Some thoughts: there are some cave houses near Birmingham, these could be similar but more ruined. The shallower holes are probably for holding something up, perhaps a wooden panel lining? I couldn't see any traces of paint or whitewash, or plaster. There are no fireplaces - and I couldn't see any signs of smoke - so perhaps they were not lived in? There is ventilation, so air exchange was important. So many possibilities! Thank you :)

maybe the holes in the wall was for a rack for keeping something cold maybe it was used as a cold store for meat or veg

It looks like theres foundation ruins, like there may have been more, older structures that broke over time. How old is this place? Its wild!
