The 8 Year Old Mansion
A little more than a decade ago there used to be a ranch home on this large property that looked much like its surrounding neighbours. It was bought and subdivided into two separate lots. In it's place two brand new custom McMansions were built, this particular house was lived in for only 8 years before the property was bought yet again with plans for demolition to build a brand new sprawling townhouse complex. The developers who own the property have been actively salvaging any and all materials worth keeping and donating them to charity before the remains of this abandoned mansion are demolished.
One of the former occupants of the home reached out to another explorer who posted their visit from the home. She said she lived there with her two brothers, sister and parents up until the house was sold. She also said the home while partially constructed in 2012 was not actually finished and lived in until 2013, making it a mere 8 years old before it's demolition!
Before this day I honestly never thought that I would ever explore such a modern house, nor did I ever think that such a new home would ever be demolished in the first place...but here we are!

Another home run, James! We love it! The kitchen is our favorite. Such gorgeous cabinets and granite. Plus… it has the butler’s pantry. Two dishwashers are becoming a sign of wealth. We adore the bear with the doll’s face. Those were popular over 50 years ago. The master bath is beautiful, too. We feel sorry for the house standing there in it’s glory to just be knocked down. Thank you, James!! We appreciate the house and you!! Love from the Ft Worth Smith twins

This house has a much better layout then it’s next door neighbour did. Too bad at 9 years of age it is getting demolished( oh wait it already has). But at least items were being salvaged. I truly hope the owners got a good sum of money for this. Oh yeah check out that “Manscapped” line. It is hilarious. Like always another great explore JH. Big Hugs 😊😊.

Hey SS. It makes you wonder if this family was wealthy when they got it & went broke. Or if they’re moving on up to a more expensive place. I agree with you on the post ( or whatever it’s called) wasn’t centered. Also the beautiful living room with the fireplace & built in-left side was wider then the right. Stuff like that bothers me if I was buying or building a home. It looked like the neighboring home was really close-if I had that kind of money to spend, I wouldn’t want that either. The staircase & high ceilings were really beautiful. Especially because it was in the bedrooms too. I take it the basement was never finished. I guess they didn’t mind-just put the kids down there with their toys & a tv. Take care
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 2 жыл бұрын
Nah, there were nonfinancial problems with the family, the whole neighbourhood was bought for redevelopment. I don't think they really wanted to move out. It used to be one big lot with a ranch home that was subdivided i er a decade ago to build to larger homes. I don't think anyone wants to live close to their neighbours but unfortunately, that's the way the world is headed with land values the way they have become. Thanks for the comment CK!!

I'm not a fan of modern homes, but this one was incredible! I absolutely love the kitchen. I would definitely use that little area off the kitchen as a coffee bar. I have always wanted a butler's pantry in a home and that is perfect. I know a person who had two dishwashers - it was because he entertained a lot and didn't like dishes left in the sink, so he filled them both and ran them while the party was still going on. I'd rather have two ovens, but that's just me lol. As always, another terrific explore!

I think the exterior is just great. I like the fact that the windows, doors match and the order is pleasing without any overly ornate additions. It gives a vibe of the 1930's. Those windows are dramatic as all hell and the draperies enhance the effect. WOW. I can't say I care for glittery tile and that patternless marble (?) but the balance of light and dark wood is just right. As a rule I dislike spiral staircases but I'm with you on this one. It isn't the usual cramped corkscrew. It has a generous way round it's self and the surrounding walls lighten the whole thing. Those closets in the upper hallway are used for the linens, draperies, and small furniture and accessories that are for those rooms but are not being used at the moment. Very handy when you change draperies etc. and don't want to store long term. I really enjoyed the video. Well done.

The room that you were in and didn’t know it’s purpose is/was a butler’s pantry. It would have been a common feature in much older “fine” homes up until the 1920’s. Originally, people didn’t have a kitchen attached to the home, by doing so, it kept a house cooler, reduced the risk of fire, not to mention keeping cooking smells from the main house. So, if there were ever a fire they wouldn’t lose their whole house and family heirlooms. Pantries are also called sculleries although that’s mostly reserved for a butler’s pantry with a sink. Also, the wine or spirits, silverware, linens, fine dishes, serving platters and such weren’t stored the in kitchen for fear of theft…they could be counted and polished then they were stored/locked in the pantry and the butler was the only one who had a key. Some butlers used to sleep in the pantry! Nowadays, people with great wealth have them for serving staff to put the last garnish on a plate or coffee makers to allow easier transport to the table things like that.

Hi James I’m so glad you posted a video today. This house is a real BEAUTY. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. No paint peel, no falling ceilings. It is a good thing that they are salvaging a good number of items. What is wrong with these people? They have a perfectly good home and they abandon it for what reason. They are never satisfied with what they have. That kitchen is magnificent and those tall windows. I wouldn’t want to wash them. LOL. All of the bathrooms were cool too. The basement was a bit creepy. All that insulation and no walls to cover it. It’s a really coo mansion. I wouldn’t mind living there. As I said earlier I was glad you posted today because I am at home in some pain from a tooth I am having pulled on Tuesday so thank you for lifting my spirits. It hadn't been abandoned all that long so there was really no time for the paint to peel. I think the basement was left unfinished to help to cut costs, it's fairly common in newer homes i think. I think it depends where you live but to build it here, it wouldn't surprise me if it cost over a $1 million. Maintenance is high for these types of houses, stucco always needs work. This type of roof is far pricier to replace than something more basic. There are other points as well but in general, the larger or more ornate a house is, the more it costs. Jenna, it wasn't the city that bought the land, it was a private development company. Yes they will profit from the work, much like any other business would. It's more of a demand issue though because there is very high demand for housing in this area. Thanks for the comment!!

@@the_bearded_rednack exactly i feel if the house was 60 years old filled with asbestos then carefully remove the materials and if the house is worth saving renovate. But a 10 year old house? only here in Australia if the house was flooded by the uprising river will it then be gutted and salvage, a house fire perhaps a 10 year old house might get bulldozed if the structural integrity is compromised. But in Toronto Canada all i see is a nice house that can be gutted if they wish and internal layout be redesigned they can start using terracotta roof shingles as they call it, theres plenty of terracotta roof tiles up the road that come from South America like Columbia they are more durable and want let the snow in or ceiling to collapse, and lastly i dont recommend a flat roof in Canada without proper drainage all those mansions with flat roofs if the the roof was slanted the snow water would not “pool” and rot the wooden shingles. Thats my 10c

Typical for Toronto. With the prices being as they are it's no surprise this will be replaced by townhomes.....the developers are still making millions. Im sure this slice of paradise cost at least 5 or 6 million. The value is all in the land.

It's in Toronto.....this is typical in the north and west areas of the city and almost all of the suburbs. Tear-downs in the best neighborhoods close to downtown have sold for tens of millions of dollars. The smallest lots in the city start at a million. It's insane, but Toronto is truly an incredible city....so much wealth, spotlessly clean, very little crime. The flip side? Traffic is a nightmare. Public transit cant be built fast enough. The cost of living is outrageous. The influx of population is causing out of control sprawl and unsustainable density.

It's being demolished to be replaced with higher density/more affordable housing. Seeing as it's a modern home, i doubt it would last 200 years but then again, we'd have to wait 200 years to know for sure. 😆 It was lived in for the 9 years that it existed, it's just that the area is seeing a lot of changes right now. It's racist to admit it but all this construction of high-density housing is fueled by the immigration going on today (from the East). And why wouldn't they immigrate to Canada where they get first choice to jobs, education and everything, before the host population. And the host pop dare not complain, or they're racist. This is greater and faster demographic change than ever seen in history across the world. Soon, my friend, you will be a minority in your own country. Do you think there will be affirmative action for your kids?

You know the world and value of things is crumbling when a beautiful house like this is just easily going to be demolished for more than likely cookie cutter town homes that are cheaply built and not beautiful like this grand home. This is worrisome that apparently in our world we are in a housing crisis situation. I guess soon nobody will have independent homes with land and much less alot of acres with it. We all going to be like China and alot of other places. Just tons of people in cookie cutter boring small everything looks alike living units cramped up together. No individualism just robots and poorly made boring units in my opinion called homes. I hope I am wrong. Kids don't have real yards to play in or pets to play in. This house is beautiful its ridiculous what is happening . All about how many people can we stick in a tight location together and of course money is involved I am sure. To destroy all the expensive things in this house and it's beauty is shameful in my opinion. We are losing what is value and being a individual with different taste in our living conditions. I hate Cookie cutter anything. You can't stop the system unfortunately.
