I think the most impressive part about hollow knight achievements is that Team Cherry could have very easily made them more difficult than this, but they didn't, because achievements aren't meant to be a long grind that you end up hating yourself over. They are meant to be goals you set for yourself as a player, and when you achieve those goals, you feel all the more satisfied. There's actually an easter egg in the game for beating the pantheon of hallownest without taking damage, where the notch at the top center glows upon completion. I have not done this myself yet, but my 200 hours tell me I'm getting fairly close. It isn't displayed as an achievement because most people are actually sane and don't want to do that to themselves, but it's there for the people who do.

Tip for anyone going for steel soul completion: You can skip 12% of completion, since it goes up to 112%. This means you can cherry pick completion tasks. I recommend strategically going for more difficult tasks with the lowest level of upgrade you feel comfortable with, so you do not lose a lot of time on reset.

oh these two achievements. Embrace the void took me nearly two years. steel soul/ heart wasn't that bad as I just did the dlc stuff and then the normal ending. regardless, a fun strategy for steel soul/ heart is to abuse the save and quit feature. for anything that could kill you or that is about to kill you, just save and quit. good luck anyone who actually reads this, and good luck on your future endeavors Snam!

Yo! I've been getting an influx of comments on the video mentioning how Embrace the Void was the harder of the two achievements (which is a 100% valid opinion to have and I'm sure they don't mean anything bad by it) so I wanted to make a pinned comment expressing why I focused on Steel Heart in case the end of the video didn't do a good enough job of explaining it: 1. I personally found Steel Heart to be the harder of the two. Embrace the Void took me 1/2 as many attempts and 1/10th of the time. (although all the bosses on radiant difficulty took me 2 months, thank goodness that wasn't an achievement lmao) 2. This achievement had a more engaging storyline. Me dying once in Pantheon 5 then immediately beating it after seemed a little anticlimactic, which is why I only really touch on my Embrace the Void attempts at the end of the video. 3. There are a lot of content creators (Nick AR, Atrioc, etc.) that have made fantastic videos on Pantheon 5 already, and I wanted to focus on the hard Hollow Knight achievement that has a bit less love content-wise. Hopefully these points sound reasonable! Catch you all in the next vid!

I personally found it harder to do embrace the void but that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve an opinion

It’s weird how people can have completely different experiences with this game. I did Steel Heart first try in under 15 hours without quitting out, getting the Steel Soul, Steel Heart and Speed Completion achievements at the same time, but it took me ages to do all of Godhome and get Embrace the Void.
@alphathewolf5832 жыл бұрын
I think it comes down to what each achievement requires. When I did Steel Heart I got it first try due to being so paranoid that I put off all the bosses as long as possible, and avoided some I did not like by doing safer % points like expansion charms. getting as OP as possible before every threat, and then since the run only requires a win I just did the base ending. Meanwhile I have been trying to beat P5 for over a year... and still have not gotten past Pure Vessel making me wonder how I ever beat P4, more than once no less.
@TEM17572 жыл бұрын
While i can appreciate this opinion, i also beat steel soul 100% in under ten hours on my first try for three achievements at once so I don’t know where my room to say is, i personally think p5 is harder mechanically speaking because there are many routes to 100% that can avoid harder content to keep safer, after fighting all the bosses enough times steel soul just doesn’t feel all that threatening (not to mention you can kinda cheat by quitting the game to get out of a bad situation if you’re about to die), all in all beating steel soul 100% just requires a bit of patience and enough skill to beat the mandatory bosses and other safe options while for p5 you need to be able to beat every single boss in a row without dying, which I find to be much harder, in the end it comes down to skill set and the amount of patience you have to put up with holding off on bosses

SIDE NOTE: If you're going for Steel Soul 100%, it's worth doing enough Pantheons on your main file to unlock Godseeker mode. Whenever you come to a tough boss you're not 100% sure you can first try in Steel Soul, you can use your Godseeker file to practice them before you fight them for real. I'm actually shocked to see that more people have done Pantheon of Hallownest than Steel Soul 100%. I really enjoyed doing Steel Soul runs, whereas every time I get to Pantheon 5, I tap out, mostly because I find it kind of... boring? Like any time I would die in Pantheon 5, I would sigh and pull out my phone and start messing around because I just didn't feel like trying again. Whereas when I died during Steel Soul, I would be furious, and immediately start a new run, thinking of how I could overcome whatever killed me. Even though a Steel Soul death represents MUCH more lost time than a Pantheon 5 death, I found a Pantheon 5 death much more demoralizing, because I really just didn't want to be doing it all that much to begin with. I guess I enjoy exploration, routing, and gaining abilities more than just fighting bosses.
@matheuscabral96182 жыл бұрын
I think the more time you lose the more demoralizing it is, but I really don’t understand why more people did p5, it’s much harder, the thing with steel soul is that it’s too easy, if you practice the bosses on godseeker mode and go for the nail upgrades, steel soul is extremely easy
@Cosmic-Comet Жыл бұрын

The pro tip for this achievement is to always practice boss fights on godhome (without any charms so it's closer to fighting them without the nail upgrades and masks). All my deaths were to regular enemies, the first one in city of tears after grinding to get enough geo to upgrade the nail for the first time and hurrying back to the smith, and the last one was to one of the creepy things that you have to hunt down for the phantom troupe, the third phase one very near the end of the game.

I remember thinking when I first started playing that there was no way I'd ever go for the hardest achievements. I'm no speedrunner by any stretch, I'm not madly proficient in micro movements, and permadeath on a potentially 10+ hour run sounded way too much for me. But over the many years I've beaten and rebeaten this game, I ended up eventually conquering them all. Even embrace the void, the one peak I never thought I'd be able to climb was such a rush when I finally overcame the final boss of the gauntlet. It goes to show how fantastic this game really is, that I'd even consider stepping so far out of my comfort zone to go for these. I love Hollow Knight so damn much.

EMBRACE THE VOID. I hate that thing Ok so uh I did steel heart really easily because 1: god gamer and 2: if you’re 1 or 2 hits away from Dying, just save and quit, reload, try again. Route the game and bosses you want to kill, what order to do them in, which pale ores to get first, all the shell fragments to get, it can be a lot. Godhome helps out a lot since it gives you literally every boss ever so you can completely destroy them. Also don’t be stupid! Don’t go in an area unprepared, don’t stop moving when in danger, use desolate dive or descending dark for immunity frames! Do ANYTHING to save yourself! You get one shot, so make it count. Another reason I always thought it was easy is because of charms and how little you actually die when prepared. What you should do, is to find an early-game charm setup (pre-city of tears) or have a couple of charms for safety (fragile strength, fragile heart, mark of pride, soul eater, shaman stone) these charms help with taking less risks, especially fragile strength and heart, since they’re cheap and both provide LIFE SAVING EFFECTS. Ok, onto why embrace the void is harder. First step: unlock pantheon 5. Seems simple right? WRONG. Beat the first 3, third was hard? Stop crying because you need to save those tears for pantheon 4! I thought this would be an easy pantheon until I reached the last boss, and found my inner celeste and geometry dash player! So I died to the boss for 3 hours straight until I did it 3 times in a row. I died to the boss on purpose so I would have better luck of not dying on the pantheon, and first tried it after. FINALLY, YOU UNLOCKED PANTHEON 5. Pantheon 5 isn’t hard, it’s just the ending that really gets me. You spend 40 minutes killing a bunch of bosses, (IN THEIR ASCENDED ARENAS, MAKING MARKOTH IMPOSSIBLE, AND MARKOTH IS LIKE THE 5TH LAST BOSS!!!) and FINALLY after like a billion hours, you make it to the final boss (nkg and pure vessel are consistent so that’s not a trouble) but you really get annoyed when you reach absolute radiance. Yes, it’s consistent, yes, you can predict attacks, and yes, it’s easy to telegraph the attacks, but GOD DAYUM IS THE FIGHT LONG. I remember doing pantheon 5 after a couple months of break, make it to absolute radiance’s LAST PHASE, AND DIE RIGHT AT THE END. It’s one of the only deaths I had in that savefile, and it was right at the end. After that I quit hollow knight and started playing Celeste just to have a similar experience (3 symbols, 7AG!!!!) and now I still play celeste but uh I still haven’t regained any motivation to play hollow knight. I do want to do pantheon 5, but every time I open it up, I’m always so new to the controls that I feel like I need a new savefile just to relearn the bosses lmao Ok forgot to say but uh get most (if not all) charms in hollow knight, each one gives you one percentage, and Grimm troupe is also pretty free when it comes to percentages. (DO THEM!) also, do the buffed dream versions of bosses since they don’t count as deaths and you can do them how many times you want.

I'm in the camp of thinking embrace the void is much harder, but I also did that one first so by the time i went for steel heart I was much better at the game. On top of that, steel heart just plays into my strengths better. I had a pretty good memory of hallownest and knew which bosses I was most likely to struggle with and how to avoid them until I was well upgraded and ready, so the run ended up being a breeze. Meanwhile completing the pantheon of hallownest took hours and hours of practice against some bosses to achieve the level of consistency needed to be able to take them out while under pressure during the actual run. And even then I still managed to die to pure vessel on the first attempt where I actually thought I was ready. I do sympathize greatly with dying to dung defender though. Recently came back to the game to do the under 5 hour run, the only achievement I had left, and was worried about struggling with watcher knights or the hollow knight. Instead my one and only death of the run was to dung defender.

yeah p5 is much harder

yeah, as someone who also has all achievements + all Radiants (boss complete with no damage taken), Steel Soul is much easier than PoH. The Save and Quit option lets you return to your last bench no matter where you’re at, so the only time you should ever really die is when you 1. get too cocky (most of mine lol), 2. get surprise combo’d into spikes, or 3. you didn’t think an attack would hit for 2 damage instead of just 1. It’s obviously much harder with no save scumming, but still nowhere near as hard as PoH considering Absolute Radiance isn’t in it, and most of the hardest bosses in the game (all of the dream bosses but one iirc) DON’T LET YOU PERMA-DIE AGAINST THEM EVEN IN STEEL SOUL.
@matheuscabral9618 Жыл бұрын
@@CabinetGremlin dude you’re not supposed to save quit every time you get to 1 life, that way it’s easy because your cheesing, stop being a noob and do steel soul fr, it’s like using invencibility to beat p5 and saying it’s easy

Wait, you say that you beat P5 in two tries, and died to Zote on one of them. Yet you also say you practiced all the bosses and your Twitch has a highlight of you practicing Absolute Radiance in the Hall of Gods. Absolute Radiance isn't unlocked in the Hall of Gods until you've fought her once, so you had to have made AT LEAST 3 attempts.

going for 112% steel soul completion right now. It really helps to have your direct route written out and a save in classic mode on the side you can revisit to practice bosses and plan your route in places like Deepnest where there are plenty of dead end and false floors to watch out for! You've taught me a fine lesson in waiting until you're better prepared for a boss before confronting them, and I know for a fact I can't defeat PLENTY of them without my precious Sharp Shadow LMAO

Untrue, the hardest achievement in hollow knight is purity, because you have to bring yourself to slaughter the nailsmith in cold blood, knowing he could live the rest of his life happily with Sheo. You know what could’ve happened, and you killed him for an achievement.

I still believe EotV is the harder of the two. All I have left to do is that, the Steel Soul related cheevos, and the speedruns. At least with the speedruns and SS, you can look up guides to know what to do and where to go to save time and sanity by avoiding lengthy and/or deadly areas (and in the case of SS, you could use an exploit to save and quit to the title if you’re fast enough and think you’re gonna die, so you don’t need to start over from scratch). You don’t get that luxury with EotV. Sure it’s the most straightforward, but the only kind of help you’ll get is: “experiment with charm builds and Git Gud(tm).” That’s it. All you can do is practice like crazy. This is why *IF* I come back to the game soon, I’m using guides for those cheevos, and EotV will be my absolute last one. I say “if” because I have other games I wanna play, so I won’t even consider it until after they’re done. But even then, that’s a long shot; I may put it off much later because they’re too hard for me. I would like to come back to it at some point, but it’s not gonna be in the near future. TLDR: At least with SS/speedruns, you have guides (and an exploit for SS). You’re largely on your own for EotV.

See the wonderful thing about Hollow Knight is, you get so good you cannot even tell how much you're really improving and actually nailing (this is not a pun) difficult achievements and feats. I saw a newbie who wanted to beat Path of Pain with a keyboard, just because they wanted or felt like they need to. I dunno how what it is about this game but that challenge feels good to take on.
