This Actor Almost voiced Optimus in the Transformers Movies. You ever wondered why our boy Optimus Prime sounds like a energon thirsty psycho path in the Bay films? Or why he's fixated on ripping off Decepticon faces? Well, there's a very interesting explanation for all of that. Before Peter Cullen was brought back from his 20 year hiatus of playing the character. Michael Bay originally planned to bring on Liam Neeson to voice Optimus Prime. Even though this didn't come to pass, Optimus' body language in the movies is still inspired by Neeson. Which makes perfect sense because Optimus feels like a character that binged all the Dark Man movies and literally talks like a robotic space Jesus on Cybertronian acid. And to think we could've heard a Neeson Optimus shooting the face off of Weaving Megatron. Then again no will ever hold a candle to Peter Cullen and Frank Welker's versions of the characters.

It's probably for the best. Liam Neeson sounds like a wise but dark king. Cullen sounds like a weary but steadfast leader who has led his men for centuries and will continue to do so for what he believes in.

To be fair though, reality is that war takes a toll on everyone....and that G1 was a cartoon for kids which is why Prime in that was very kind and never killed Decepticons as far as I can remember. AOE and TLK went a bit too far with Prime saying "I'LL KILL YOU!" every other sentence, but "GIVE ME YOUR FACE! I rise!....you fall!" Was such a dope scene. Also, "Who would you be without me Prime?" "Time to find out!" Was such a dope moment too imo.

I'm so glad they brought Cullen back. I loved that the Transformers films chose to hire dedicated voice actors instead of established Hollywood actors for the Transformer voices, aside from Megatron, Sentinel Prime, and maybe a few others. All the Transformers were voiced by people I recognised from cartoons & video games and I think it's the coolest thing ever, Crosshairs is Brother Blood from Teen Titans, Wheelie is Spongebob, Arcee is Mandy from Grim Adventures, and so on.

Liam Neeson is an iconic actor on his own and he’s well known for his naturally “intimidating” voice. I highly recommend you watch the movie “Taken” (it’s the movie that got him really famous and it expresses the importance of being cautious overall). Liam may not sound exactly like Peter but I agree with you- he’d definitely do an interesting twist on Optimus’ voice! Would really love him to impersonate Prime one day :)

It's a good thing the production decided for Peter in the movie. The first time I watched the movie it made me feel that the characters from childhood went to life. Liam's voice may be good but his voice sounded more of a "Mess with me and I will destroy you" unlike Peter's that sounded more of a "I will protect even if I have to sacrifice myself"

Only mildly related fun fact: If a murder victim has their face destroyed/bashed in, criminal profilers will automatically determine that the murderer must have been someone who harbored a very strong and personal resentment towards the victim. Destroying someone's face is a subconscious way to destroy a person's identity, to basically erase them as an individual. Wich people will usually only do if they kill someone they really hate in a fit of rage. Movie Optimus fixation on the Decepticons faces actually shows just how much he hates them. Not just as a opposing military faction, but on a personal level. (I doubt this was done intentionally, though. The writers of these films aren't smart enough for that.)
