Palance was a very good actor who reminded me of Charles Bronson. Both came from the coal mining area of PA.

Delightful story about Jack Palance, master of the one-arm push-up (at the Academy Awards). Tough and talented, artistic and smart, he was brutally honest as well. On a talk show he was asked about the movie Batman. He stated that Jack Nicholson’s share of the money was larger than merited as there were other actors who shone brightly too.

I liked Palance for his work, but at first, I didn't, as he was really good at playing a bad guy.

The TV version of Requiem was as good as the theater release with Anthony Quinn. If they did celebrity boxing in those days Quinn v. Palance would have been interesting as Quinn was also a legit tough guy. My money, of course, would be on Palance, easy. Going the distance with Baksi is kind of a statement.

The movie ... in particular Quinn's performance ... was great, but the live Playhouse 90 version had an immediacy to it, giving viewers a sense of being in the scenes.

So, which were the three world champions Palance fought?

Jack Brazzo (Palance) had only one official bout (in 1940) against Joe Baski who ran up a good record against top opposition including future champ Jersey Joe Walcott. Walcott actually fought four champions Ezzard Charles (2X), Rocky Marciano (2X), Joe Louis (2X) and Joey Maxim (3X). Baski also fought (and beat) Lou Nova plus Lee Savold each of whom fought three past or future champions.
