I used to set my own lists too... What also takes some time... But since I lost them (my lists) I started to work just typing the name of the plugin (2 or 3 letters is enough) in the search field... You can sort your plugins really fast out. I find this even faster. 👍🏻

i have quite a few waves plugins, and always use the same few. Like the C1 is my goto for side-chained compression, MV2 for upwards and downwards compression, F6 for side-chained dynamic equing, L1+ Ultramaximizer as my final limiter. I use standardClip(not waves) as my goto for soft/hard clipping saturation and getting the warmth. Thanks for the tip, this will accelerate my workflow dramatically. Especially as I dont use any mixing templates and have to create busses for every song it can be a pain to add and set up the compressors for side chaining kicks to basslines, routing drums to their own bus, especially when you have to keep scrolling through the plugin list

It would be a great idea to organize them by music style and then type. Then you could go to your rock folder and quickly find your Go-to distortion, delay, flange, etc. Same could go for other styles. The time that would take though...

There is something that's really funny! I was thinking of something like this today for Pro Tools. I've been a Pro Tools user since 2018 and I love it but this feature would be such a time saving feature. If I'm not wrong Pro Tools is the only DAW or better said, the only commercial DAW with no plug-in manager like Cubase or Studio One. Having something like this is so necessary! Thanks for sharing!

i´m a huge fan of the plugin manager and always created my own lists since this feature was brought to cubase 🙂 before that was available, i used to create custom folders in the file-system to have the plugins sorted the way i liked, lol most of the time i already know which plugin i will need for the application, but that also means i´m going to use the same few ones over and over again, and i almost regret many plugins i have bought and never use.

When talking about mixing does it mean no mixing during song arrangement and other production? So mixing should be the last thing?
@mixdownonline2 жыл бұрын
Yes, mixing is the last step before mastering, but that doesn't mean you can't mix stuff up while recording if needed. I also always think of the Mix when I produce and record a song. I think that can be a good topic for a video, so I can explain this better :-)

well, my way of going about this, in Cubase... is that that I have a "New Plugin" and a "Test" folder. Drop the thing inside. Once I tested it. in my "Dynamic" folder, I have a "Fav" and "Other" folder. So I don't have to search for ages those I like the most. And if I need something else, I got everything else just bellow my short list of plugins. Simple but efficient. (I did a copy and past of my comment on Colt channel, 5 minutes ago)

The most impotant benefit of the plug-in manager is that you can sort the plug-ins the way that makes sense to YOU! Ever noticed that there, usually, is an "other" category, when you select to sort "by category"....And this is where the mayority of plug-ins tend to end up!!!! Kinda defeats the purpose of sorting "by category". Doesn't it?
@mixdownonline2 жыл бұрын
That depends on the way you sort that out. In my case, whatever doesn't fit in my main categories, goes the "other", which is not the majority of my plugins
@svenisaksson39702 жыл бұрын
@@mixdownonline If you select "sort by category" and let the plugins end up in the category that the vendors determined, the vast majority WILL end up in the "Other" category, in any DAW or Audio software (such as Wavelab). That's where most vendors decide to put them!

The black sheep of plug-ins is indesputably Waves! Every Waves plug-in comes in at least twoi (mono and stereo), and several in more (mono -> stereo, etc), variants. This is a total waste of space and only serves to give us bloated plug-in menues, for no benefit. Waves seems to be the only plug-in manufacturer who has failed to understand that the VST format can detect the cannel cifiguration, and configure the plug-in accordingly. The mono -> stereo variants are particurlarly useless, as there is no way to turn a mono channel into a stereo channel in Cubase!
