I've been thinking lately that the IR technology is where modern amp sims are still lacking. Stuff like ToneX and Neural Amp Modeler are already pretty much perfect in terms of capturing the amp itself, but IRs is still this 90's technology that doesn't really make a real cabinet and mic justice. You are only capturing the static frequency response (i.e EQ curve), but not the dynamics of a moving speaker that also interacts with the power amp. It's nice to see more companies trying to develop this part of an amp sim further.
@7riXter Жыл бұрын
QUESTION: (dwight schrute here 😅) If Tonex and Nam are able to capture the dynamic behavior of an amphead, do they also include the dynamic reaction of the speaker pushed by the amp? Kind of a matter of perspective isn't it?
@nj1255 Жыл бұрын
@@7riXter To some degree, they should. However, NAM and ToneX can't capture something like a compressor, only the super quick dynamics/saturation (and frequency response) that happens in a guitar amp. The dynamics happening in a guitar speaker and mic+preamp should be quite similar to a guitar amp though, so maybe NAM and ToneX does capture them quite accurately. I definitely like many of the full rig capture for NAM and ToneX better than using IRs at least.

Fantastic video..I've been trialing it for a few days and I'm very impressed with the dynamics of this plugin..the demo I've been working on with this sounds very similar to yours 😂 and I'm normally more in the metal core realm..this sim makes you want to play bad ass '00's era metal..it's got a snarl almost like a Marshall..corresponds to your picking very realistically as well..I have more amp sims than I really need but I'll probably keep this one

Best of both worlds! A plethora of IR in one's collection, but with the dynamics of a real speaker? Sounds very promising, Bogren plugins are great! *And a LUSH effects section, too

I use it for rhythm guitars and it’s crushing. But for leads, I need a more fluid flute sound (Diezel Herbert Ch3) and then it needs at least 2 overdrives in series to come close. IRDX is an absolute must after this plugin.

@XiyuYang Жыл бұрын
From the looks of it, the IRDX is just a black box placed after the IR block of the ampsim, it models the nonlinearity of speaker cones when driven hard. It's kinda useful I guess.

Sounds sick Mendel. Bogren should hire you to be the guy that showcases their plugins over others. Outstanding player, and puts the plug-in through the paces to show what it can actually do. Not trying to throw shade their way but some of these demos that guys are putting out are just so poorly dialed in they make the plug ins sound bad.

Hi Mendel I just installed the free trial version of the plugin before I could make a judgement of buying and so far I am confused. The reason is because when I go to channels two and three, it doesn't really have the crunch I'm looking for. Keep in mind I also turned on the od's and it still doesn't sound right. I'm running it through reaper and I am wondering if it's a latency issue or an issue on the plugin.

To be honest, the technology and stuff is pretty cool. But most of the demo sounds I'm listening are fine if you want a similar sound to 80's and 90's bands, like Messhugah, Fear Factory, Lamb of God, Ill Niño and so on. If you want a similar sound to Gojira or Periphery or The Black Dahlia Murder, this is not the plugin for it.

idk, to me this ampsim sounds very different when i play through it. Super percussive, lack of sustain and always feels not enough gain. Testing it for 3rd day. IRDX is cool though.

TBH though, Neural DSP just nailed the GUI. It’s the amp head, with the cabs, pedals etc at the top. Unless a plugin developer is to go the Valhalla/FabFilter route with amp sims, how else should they do it?

I tried the focusrite and the presonus 24c and 2 different computers. All these pluggins sounds terrible. Static, feedback, terrible distortion. From STL to these guys. None of it sounds like as advertised. Spare yourself the headache. It's all shit. Maybe it sounds good if you spend 2k+ on a computer and audio interface. Other than that, it's all crap.
